Stripey's History

Post by vulgalour »

I could just ask Dollywobbler about this, but I've spotted stripey in the background of a few pictures on other threads around here and thought it better to ask the WHOLE COMMUNITY. Stripey has had a very interesting history, probably the most interesting of any car I've had dealings with, and I'd love to know more and see more.

So, if anyone has pictures and info of Stripey before I owned it, especially on the epic French trek, I'd welcome you to post them here so I can collate some sort of history to bore other people with that don't know the car. Very much one of a kind, I'd love to find out more.

There's a great one of it leading the convoy of ~20(?) BXs around the site at the ICCCR, but the Facebook link to it seems to have changed.

..that_

You'll find that there are many members here glad to see that it's gone to someone who is willing to do/get the work done to ensure the future of this car.

It's one of the few legends of the Club that hasn't succumbed to major breakdown / rust / accident over the years.

Cheers for the pics and titbits so far, I especially like the snowy mountain picture. Hopefully I can add more to the story as time goes by.

Nothing like a Challenge trip for raising the profile of a vehicle - fancy a trip to Scotland?

This is the only picture I could find of ol' stripy - parked next to Gary's lovely Meteor at the ICCCR. It did give me an excuse to look through all my ICCCR photos though . . . what a FANTASTIC week that was! 8)

It's almost as far, but now that I can actually drive Stripey, I'll be making an excursion to Brooklands on the 10th of March. Just a few little mechanical jobs and to resolve and some more clean up of the paint before I tank up for that trek.

@Paul296: That Meteor is very lovely. I like the row of surprised and slightly stuffy looking Traction Avants in that picture too.

It's got speedlines 'to die for' that car. 8) I think the TOC were having their 'national' at the ICCCR so there were ALOT of Tractions - many of them the 'best of the best'. I really like Tractions, but after a while you did get the feeling that once you'd seen one . . . you'd probably seen 'em all!
