Heater blower not working - day before Utrecht!!

I've just discovered, on the hottest day this year, that my blower's stopped working!! Fuse 2 is ok, so I'm assuming it's the actual motor or the resistor in the control unit. I've got an opportunity to swap the motor or control unit with my other Meteor this evening, but it's a bit of a bugger!!

Any hints and tips before I start dismantling? Should I swap the facia control unit first and see if that does the trick? What should I check for (I have a multimeter)?

As these jobs always take longer to do than anticipated, your timescale looks risky! Perhaps better to drive with the windows open until you get back than need to drive a partially dismantled car.

Think I will take your advice: leave it - and get hold of a fan that plugs into the cigar socket.

That should give you some pointers. You could run a (fused) wire direct from the battery to the motor so at least you would have a constant full speed, assuming the motor is OK.

If you have to take out the transistor you can do it (just!) without taking the fan motor housing out although it is a very tight squeeze. It may be easier on models without air con though!
I did mine on Sunday as the speed was intermittant - it would suddenly change speed by itself. The problem is now cured but I would add one thing to Tom's tips and that is to cover the bolts in Araldite or similar, firstly to stop them coming loose but secondly to prevent moisture getting between surfaces and causing corrosion.
