Might just run with the clock.....it's not like I need a rev counter on it
Here's the stat housing:

So I need to replace one of those sensors with a sender unit, right?

Nope - it's in the white housing round the back of the block on a diesel (grey wire).Kitch wrote:Well I don't appear to have a TDC sensor, assuming I'm looking in the right place

Yup. I'd replace the sender that normally illuminates the red light, and wire the amber light sender to the red light in the gauge. That way you get an early warning to pay attention to the gauge!Kitch wrote:So I need to replace one of those sensors with a sender unit, right?
Ahh I see....didn't look theremat_fenwick wrote:Nope - it's in the white housing round the back of the block on a diesel (grey wire).Kitch wrote:Well I don't appear to have a TDC sensor, assuming I'm looking in the right place

I think I can lay my hands on a 16v onemat_fenwick wrote:It was only the interesting engines which had the temp. gauge, so you need a gauge sender from one of those...like a spare 16v?It's shorter than the warning light switch and certainly screws into the 'stat housing on a turbo diesel. The senders look identical on yours.
The gauge I played with needed a sensor that was 130? at 100°C to read 100°C accurately. One sender I bought from a Citroen dealer was the wrong type but would have read 100°C when the coolant was about to boil (which should be around 110°C because it's pressurised).Which sender do I need to get then? One for a higher-spec XUD?
