````good home wanted BX19 diesel
Post by GideonB »
The below car failed the mot an rear suspension welding ( which i've had done two months ago) a leaking load corrector and one of the rear spheres.
My intention was to get it mot'd this summer and drive it around France for a couple of weeks. ( bit of a nostalgic trip as something i did 20 years ago with another BX and trailer tent). Unfortunately i'm unable to commit any more time to the project and " her indoors" says it has to go.
The hard bit has been sorted, this is a clean motor which a good engine. It would be a shame to scrap it , but if nobody's intrested it will have to go to the scrapyard in a week or so. £175 is a reasonable price given the cost of the welding.
I'm in Mold (North Wales) about 12 miles from Chester.
If anyone is interested i suggest getting in touch on 07595 880959 as i'm working 15 hour days at the mo and can't guarantee getting on the computer.
The youtube video was taken before the welding was done.
Sounds very reasonable to me, surely this will find a home. Way too good to scrap!
Currently in 'domestic discussions' about this before I contact the seller, as it's only about 60 miles from me. Don't let this put anyone off though, as it would be easier for me if I didn't have it - more of a last resort if it would otherwise be scrapped.
Well, I'm hoping to go and have a look at it tomorrow...I seem to have got a (slightly reluctant) green light so long as it doesn't stay here too long!
Drop a TD engine in it and then sell it to someone slightly south of you. Sorted! ;)
The thought had indeed crossed my mind, but would need things like the gearbox, radiator, exhaust, bonnet lining, plumbing etc. Now if only there was a donor vehicle...
Nothing wrong with a n/a diesel, they are rather unappreciated in my view, & are much better round town than the laggy turbo.
I was always a very vocal supporter of the NA diesel, and still am. In certain conditions, the NA is supreme. I don't encounter many conditions like that anymore...
I'd go with that. N/a is quick enough, no lag, more simple. Mine likes to rev too!!
Mine's quite happy to rev to the redline, its the only way to overtake anything without having to make a prayer beforehand, haha. In all honesty i don't think they are all that slow & aren't bad when you consider its only got 71bhp (assuming none has been lost, i must pop down for the next rr day) & mine's 20 years old. If you're in the wrong gear, then its v-slow as there is no torque.
I went to see it early this evening - in a nutshell the shell is sound with no rot in the usual spots. Front wheel arches, A pillars, exhaust hanger and rear crossmember all solid although towbar incredibly crusty. Slight bit of rust in the seam under the washer bottles, but it passed the prod test! Tidy interior for the mileage.
Downsides are one perished tyre, headlamp glass fallen off, heater blower not working, two out of three of three heater knobs split where they go onto the shafts, broken off driver's door mirror, charging warning lamp not working, missing wheel trim. There were a few other failures on the MOT sheet, but all in Welsh so I don't know what they are :oops: It had an advisory on the handbrake, but it didn't feel disastrous when pulling it on. Oh, and it needs a front wiper blade desperately :lol:
The green light at home seems to have been revised downwards to an amber, although that may be because things aren't going too well for her at the moment. I'll have to raise the subject when she's in a better mood, as I could potentially collect it at the weekend.
I may have a pal interested in this, but he's not a BXer (yet!) so would need guiding through some of the pitfalls.
EDIT - he's just played the 'too many cars' card, so perhaps not!
I'm not convinced you do! Will you ever stop adding to the fleet?
I have a spare wheel trim too but its not in too good nick.
