Theres quite a few other alterations according to the bulletin we have at work, most of which wont affect old cars such as the BX. However if you have a busted speedo cable...
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

That is quite a vague document really, it doesn't state what they are testing for example it just says 'speedometer' will they check if its fitted, if it goes up as the wheels go around, if there is any relationship between road speed and indicated speed?

Fortunately i've just got my MOT for the year, because that last point i would fail on. My speedo indicates 10mph when the engine is off, its in the garage and the garage door is locked!

I guess i wont be 'upgrading' to a 13pin trailer socket either!

interesting stuff, especially for me the Class 5 changes. I'll have to check with my tame bus examiner since older buses dont have door warning systems, and I'll be buggered if I'm fitting one!
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

i think new rules will be age related/onwards

"will introduce new requirements to annual vehicle tests to reflect advances in technology"

i think we will be exempt even though earlier citroens are way ahead of the crowd

Catching up with the kiwi WOF stupidity!

If you have a petrol the odometer does not have to work but if you have a diesel it must work. They dont care if the calbration is out either because as a diesel owner you pay your fuel tax as a road mileage charge. Since most speedos run faster than actual speed it goes on that you distance covered is higher than your actual distance hence more revenue. Get caught driving a diesel with over due miles or a faulthy odometer and expect a serious high jump.

To be fair, it'd have to be pretty bad not to pass! Lots of stuff that would fail an MoT will just get you an advice point, and lots of other stuff will get you a Contre Visite (re-test), but even then you have two months to fix it and you can use the car in the meantime. I've never heard of anything actually completely failing!

Judging by the state of some of the cars we saw on the challenge I'm not surprised. The Renault Scenic that spoiled our collective BX photoshoot at Le Fontenay in Chamonix Mont Blanc springs to mind. The sills were constructed from what appeared to be old copies of Le Monde!! :o

Oh yeah, you see some real horrors! Went to look at a Mehari once, advertised as 'restored'. Most of the chassis was chicken wire, paper and polyfilla, it had apparently been painted with household gloss, using a cauliflower as a brush, and you had to hotwire it to start it...

Had a chat with my mate Dave, who is my MOT tester, and he went on a refresher course 2 weeks ago,and is still a vague as when he went.As far as the 13 pin socket goes, you will not have to change to one of these if you alresdy have the old 7 pin type, but it must be servicable. One thing that wasn't on the VOSA list, but is being enforced is the air bag warning light.Up until the 20th March,it is an advisory only, after the 21st it will be a failure. It's easier to hot wire it out to another circuit. If the light goes out,it's a pass!!Most of the regs won't affect the BX's anyway, and nothing needs to be retro fitted to comply with the new regs.
