Additive Injector Cleaner generally gives only potentially short term benefits and gums the injectors up further making them worse.
Proper cleaning and servicing is the ONLY magic solution.

You really are having a bit of a mare with this aren't you!

Whatever you do, don't scrap it! It has to be a fixable problem, even if it gets to the point of buying a known-good engine and swapping them.

In terms of a car swap... I can offer you a slightly rusty MK1 17RD in red. Front height corrector doesn't, and the clutch is about to die. But it runs perfectly!

You really want to scrap it for the sake of spending £60 to clean the injectors properly?

what is the condition of the injector sealing rings?

I suppose the injector spray pattern can be checked quite easily as the things only operate at 36 psi or something.

I agree that any difference between cylinders will show up at idle revs and not be noticeable at higher revs.

The injectors were cleaned and i put new caps, seals and filters in them.

I'll re-iterate, if anybody wants to swap for a working, decent BX then let me know.

When i bought the car it had been maintained for the previous year by my local specialist. He knows BX's like the back of his hand and has been involved with Cits for years. He could never get it to run right either.

Is it worth noting that when the accumulator kicks in the engine almost stalls from just over 1000rpm and thats the point it starts hunting?

I feel for you, mate. It must be really frustrating... I know little, but could it be a problem with the ECU? There can be no shortage of suggestions, I know, but please be patient (easy for me to say, I know  ) 'cos she's a lovely car really!

Just a thought here, but I have a mate who was an engineer by profession but such a Citroen fanatic that he eventually went into business with another wealthy guy also a Citnut and they ran a business down south specialising in Cit repairs (which in a country where they're a rare commodity is no mean feat to be able to survive) but what I'm getting to is that this guy is insistant that normal plug leads as bought in the average general spares shop will operate inefficiently in a Citroen. He has a BX himself and it had normal silicone leads fitted when he bought it and one of the first things he did was replace them with the genuine ones and claimed it made a difference to the running. He reckons the Cit leads have inbuilt resistance or some bloody thing or other and cut one open one day to show me this coil wound down the insides of it.
Could it be a possibility with this car by any chance?
I know it may be simplifying things even suggesting it, but any port in a storm.
Any chance you can post all the symptoms so we might pool our collective knowledge and see what we can come up with?

Ian, and bearing in mind it`s me saying this and I have an extremely low patience barrier, sutrely it`s not worth selling/binning the 4x4 for that reason?
Keep the faith, you have other transport to use in the interim so keep going at the 4x4, it`ll all come good in the end.

Ian dont talk silly about scrapping it! Its beautiful and rare, best thing is to put it away in the garage and ignore it until such time that your ready to tackle it again! Sometime the SD1 and I didnt speak a word for 6 months when it threw a paddy!

9 years on its pretty much sorted and as you know looking stunning as does your 4x4.

Hello. I am sorry to read of your problem, it really is so frustrating. I have found that the best thing is to stop, leave it, do something enjoyable and different. Its so easy to go mentally "blind" and go in circles.
A couple of things come to mind, but one simple thing is to use a Gunson colour tune, they can tell you so much as regards what is going on. The other is have the tappet clearences been checked. A tight clearence can really upset matters.
Please let us know what happens as I am sure it can be sorted.
Best wishes.
Cheers. Geoff.

:?: Before or after your industrial clean?

Also what solvent, degreaser or industrial detergent was used in the ultrasonic bath?

But did you remove the old filters and caps before putting them through the tank?
