Post by ruffgeezer »

Only budgets I'm afraid but plenty of tread on them, £20 (pics + measurements on monday)

Please PM me as I don't come here that often these days :)

I'm interested in these tyres, need 4 new ones for the TXD, it has 185/60's on there atm, would 195/60's be too big and mess up the speedo? Or I could put them on the back. Pics would be good, and brand name.

I think they are Triangle (budget) brand, I'll get pics tomorrow.

I'll check on the 185/60 front, there might be some knocking about...

Thanks, I don't recall what the rears are like treadwise, I know the fronts are pretty low bordering bald so need to buy two fronts anyway. If the rears are ok then i'll leave them, if they need doing then i'll put these 195's on the rear and two new 195's on the front too.

Cheers!

Tom,

best to put the new ones on the rear and the older ones on the front.
Best practice mate.

If you don't drive like a maniac likely to encounter "breakaway" then he is right to put the new tyres on the front.
The reason for this on a BX is that the fronts are the driven wheels and wear faster than the rears. Therefore you can balance wear and optimise tyre life.
In any case most of the braking effort on the BX occurs at the front wheels.

Understeer or oversteer, them's the choices ;) I prefer understeer, so would personally put the tyres with the most tread on the rear, but seeing as i switch tyres/wheels over every 6mths between my winter & summer tyres, i don't tend to suffer to much with tread wear being that uneven between the fronts & rears.

I found 195's made the steering too heavy, also u may struggle to get them on the rear if your rear arm bearings are shot they may rub on the inner arch. I got 185/60/14 on 205 speedlines on the tzd and find these much better.
