Tim, reality check, if the car was that good in the 1st place, why did the current owner have to spend loads of money on it????

It was due a service for age more than miles, the starter kept sticking so was replaced and the arms needed doing as one had a slight lean so in his defence he just got them done.

Still far too much money Tim,would agree with you if it hadnt so many miles on it.
And, if so much had to be done to make it 'tip top', what about other stuff such as the octopus and other hydraulic bits?
At best it might make a couple of grand but i doubt it without a much more detailed explanation of its condition and more piccys of its bodywork and where they tend to go tits up.

I spoke to him too and I'm sure he said that he'd paid 2k for it, not 3k. He was saying something about having to park it on the road and not being happy about that but apart from that he wasn't in a hurry to sell and would keep it if he couldn't get the price he wanted.

You're right Jane, it was 2k not 3k as some bloody idiot has tried to make out. Put him in the stocks and throw rotten eggs - I dunno' . . . some people.

He paid £2000 for it, and has spent about £1000 on it since having lots of little bits done, ok you never get money back on BX's but you cant fault him for trying!

If I had the money I would snap it up!

I can't see why that should make it worth more than £2000 top whack? OK, there's no depreciation now on a BX like a new car but spending money in garages doesn't add anything to a new car either by the time it arrives at it's first MOT. :?

A £2k car thats supposed to be the best out there & neading a grand spending on it clearly isn't a top car in my view. I don't care how nice it looks, if it needs mechanical work doing to keep it roadworthy then i would have made an offer based on how much i was going to have to spend on it, some people just don't learn. I'm sure its now a nice car, but i would want to know exactly whats been replaced in the last 5 years etc...before shelling out over £2 grand on a car tbh.....

Bloody hell Mulley it will be scrap value soon at this rate, why cant we be happy that BX prices are on the up instead of talking them down? Theres a huge gap between the 150000 mile tatty examples and cars like this and WTF in condition and its very well known that a rusty BX can be a world of pain so why not buy one that doesnt need any?

He bought it sight unseen as he "fell in love with it" and had it delivered it to his house (ok maybe not wise but its his money), the arm bearings were done as there was a bit of wear in them which I pointed out so he got them done, they probably would have lasted 5 more years before they really wanted doing but he likes it to be "right"

As for the starter? well the cars 21 years old things fail/wear out so instead of hitting it with a hammer or getting a second hand one like some of would he bought a brand new valeo one and had it fitted so that will probably last another 21 years. A full service at a Citroen Main dealer (not specilaist) including cambelt, tensioner and waterpump wouldnt be cheap now, but it was due and he wanted it doing properly and new the garage so had it done no expense spared. Personally I think its comendable that the works been done properly using genuine bits and I dont blame him for trying to get some of his money back as the next owner wont have to!

I think the point he's making (which I'm inclined to agree with) is that it seems strange how one of the highest priced recently sold BXs apparently hadn't even had a service before sale! Like you say, I can't fault him for wanting to try and recoup some of his costs, but most of us are suggesting that he'll be lucky to do so when starting with a top priced car...

Mat, its literally been serviced in the last month, hes owned the car for a while so didnt need one when he bought it, plus the car was bought from a Mr Rugg esq who afaik doesnt do any mechanical work himself.

When I sold WTF I didnt do anything to it asides give it a clean as it had done little miles since its last service but the new owner said he will send it to his local Citroen specialist to give it a small service and the "once over" for his peace of mind, which when I buy a car is probably what I do myself (oil change, plugs and cambelt if its not been done recently). This car though has had it all done so theres no need.

There are some of us that are mechanically inept, so the idea of buying a sorted BX that doesnt need any work would surely appeal (Ive already had a couple of email enquiries albeit one was from a man in Bahrain no doubt wanting me to send money to him and then him send me more back!)
