1992 TGD 1.9n/a MAY BREAK lots of good bits

Post by rutter123 »

Bit of a dilemma with my 92 tgd, currently sat on the garden mot expired, tax end may, tzd now back on the road full time, so i want rid of tgd, not worth a lot as is so would be willing to break with enough interest, good 105k n/a engine (new head at 90k) good front struts, all hydraulics good, 4 good steels solid type wheels with 3 michelin/ 1avon tyre lots of tread most parts will be available apart from hyd pump, sunroof assy, this car was on the road and being driven daily from november to may with no issues, i will only break it if i get enough interest or it gets put into storage .

Why not get it mot'd, with the price of BX's on the rise you'd be mad not get a decent price, even if it was looking a bit shabby, it'd still be worth £500 with 12mths mot on it.

yes a shame to break it, but no interest in this car i only got it to see me thru the winter whilst the tzd was laid up, its served its purpose, im also not a great fan of 1.9n/a's, car can still be driven/tested til 31/5/13.

Eh, getting it mot'd isn't that much hassle is it, your car, your choice but i find it incredible that you'd be happy to lose hundreds of pounds for very little effort?

yes i can see what you're all saying, have had it up on a four post ramp, will need welding n/s/r sill o/s/f inner arch, boot floor/ hanger, both rear arms completely shot /\ crusty fluid pipes f to r, bottom engine mount shot, clutch cable shot, front bumper broken, handbrake cables need replacing, centre exhaust pipe blowing, plus mot cost, now i reckon thats a few hundred quid, even done on the cheap, and quite frankly after all the effort ive put into the tzd over the past few months i really dont have the inclination to do all that work just to risk selling it on. if i dont get enough interest in the way of breaking it then it will go into dry storage until another day.

Aha, now i understand why you've said what you did. Yup, a fair amount of work, but like you've said, perhaps just pop it into storage & do some of this work over time & before you know it, it'll be worth a grand minimum in very little time or more :)

Couldn't shift the estate for £150 with 12 months' MoT!

That was a bit strange, but you did only advertise it on here, which is probably the worst place to offload a BX ;) Did you try car & classic which is free?

I did not. I couldn't bring myself to consider the estate as a classic! Classic screams poncey paintwork and anal history to me.

Could you see Timex on C&C?

so hyperthetically speaking i spend, say £500 on it getting everything sorted including the body work, which will entail a lot of man hours (of which spare hours are limited at present) would it really sell for anything like a grand? i think not personally as i have only ever sold 1 bx and that took months to sell, i reckon i would struggle to get more than half that. being a bog stock tgd it wont demand top dollar, my other option is a t/d eng/box for it.

Who knows, thats the strange world of selling a car, some sheds go for loads & then quite respectable one's go unsold. I suppose the TGD spec isn't the best, but then again it is probably one of the rarer versions, so a few years down the road the more poverty spec cars may be worth more than the others?

If there's no rush, just do the work over time, at least you'll then have 2 BX's & so if you current daily has to be off the road you can then rely on your TGD :) It is low mileage as well.

There's people out there that can't believe Timex is roadworthy (albiet in the broadest sense of the word), let alone being preserved for future generations to laugh at!
