How very dare you compare a legendary Mark 1 with an upstart shiny newcomer? I am offended. I wish to complain. This is me, complaining. Um, I think I'm done now.

With the greatest of respect Paul, that is absolute nonsense...

Only joking! I completely agree. Thing is, you have to have a thick skin, and sometimes the effort you put into something isn't readily appreciated and rightly or wrongly, you get hacked off with the brickbats. Tim, if you take a back seat, other people might better appreciate your work thus far...

very nice example, but not sure about the facelift tho its of its era, looks like a complete front bumper aftermarket jobby as the fogs are in the wrong place? should reach 4 figures.

If I said that it would be slander...anyway correct front bumper would be easy to obtain should you decide to remove that one.

I don't understand what your CCC column has got to do with this forum? I didn't think they were affiliated tbh, ok you've had a few people disagree with you (me included) but i haven't fallen out with you (can't comment on anyone else), i just don't see that its that big an issue, unless you feel it is in which case its your decision to do whatever you decide. You should decide whats best for you, not what you think others may want, so don't jump the gun & do something that you may later regret.

Prices seem highly topical at the moment because of lots of reasons, if we actually had a price guide which included condition etc...then i think the values side of these disagreements would just fade away. Why don't you organise something like this, it would be a great project & should help members as well as the general public thinking of buying a BX :) Would the CCC be prepared to evalute cars that turned up at their events?

I don't why folks have got over excited or fallen out over this old TZD as its only just that :? (As it has been spotted/posted/discussed on here in the past) !

IMHO the Red one owner TZD at Cromer was a far better/genuine example (Even with additional cost of getting the 'A' pillar/roof rust sorted out) !

As I've wondered a few times if H342 CBD was ever going to come out storage since it was bought back in February 2012 for £401 !
I even thought it may have possibly broken up for spares by now (If the engine/cylinder head had been over cooked thro' having a burst/holed radiator) ?
Dollywobbler wrote:Mileage is nice, but I'm not keen on that bumper. Or the mis-matched rear lights. Will be interesting to see what it makes, as it's described as having a few 'foibles' to sort out.
Ian, I too spotted that straight away and as the vendor has actually had a spare matching pair for sale on E-BAY this tells me that the usual meticulous attention to detail the vendor normally takes pride in when recommissioning of vehicles which have been laid up, does not appear to have had taken place on this occasion :(

I would inspect the car on its condition, unless you know the whole history of any car you cant be sure what works been done over the years.

I think we're all worrying over nothing, it looks a nice example
Tim your 100% correct on your statement /\ (In Red) as I strongly recommend anyone thinking of purchasing this vehicle to indeed give it a thorough check over, especially to see if its had a new radiator fitted (Or a very good condition second-hand one) and I'd personally even want to do a proper combustion gas leak check with a fluid DETECTOR KIT to be 100% sure that there was no water-works/HG/Cylinder-head concerns BEFORE bidding on it and parting with my hard-earned £'s !

^ That. (my bold)

Post a BX on e-bay and details will get picked up and posted on here and will get commented on/speculated about. Most of what I've seen on this thread has been complimentary about the car - this ain't even in the same county as some of the commentary some other 'for sales' or 'spotteds' that I've seen. I would hope that most genuine sellers would appreciate/value independent and honest appraisal from experts in the BX field, freely given and possibly providing good assurance for interested-just-lurking-here potential buyers.

The nice thing about a public forum is that everyone is free to air their opinions and everyone is free to agree or disagree. Whether we hold with what is said is neither here nor there; the freedom to say it is absolutely paramount. If that freedom is not upheld for fear of offending delicate sensibilities, it ceases to be a free and democratic forum but a platform for particular groups to pursue their own interests. We have enough of that shit in the rest of public life without bringing it on here.

Mickey taker wrote:Not only that Paul ,none of us want to see another of our bx friends get ripped off or just miss something that someone else (a potential buyer ?) May have missed so to comment on any advert is fair game whether the comment be good or bad , of course the only real way to judge a car is to physically view it yourself,
I still think I was lucky buying the meteor blind but did take notice of all the comments that had been made on the thread that was on here.
..that_ Precisely Mick !
Mickey taker wrote:this is the reply I got

they used to run hotter at speed , but could sit in a summers day traffic jam for hours and never overheat, but that's an airflow issue built in by design !!

but on ebay he has put

Rad defo shot , it has corroded at the bottom of the core, the vehicle was stopped and towed home before any damage was knowingly done, all 5 spheres were replaced before the rad went , the car had £400 spent on it on the spheres and other bits and pieces, if my dad had the money to put a new radiator in if and not been given a seat Toledo for nothing ,it wouldn't be for sale as he'd still be enjoying driving it , he hates the Toledo with a passion !!!
Here's the LINK to Micks /\ quote when it was sold to the current vendor on February 17th 2012

Good luck with the sale and to whom ever buys !

Well that went for strong money, even with my help...great advert and pics and if its as good as it looks (i have no reason to believe it won't be) then I'm sure the new owner will be pleased.

Well short of WTF though with a supposedly more desirable model? Thats the thing with values, they are up & down with some cars that looked in pretty average condition selling for nearly as much as this one, supply & demand? Who knows, it does look nice though, lets hope the new owner has bought a good un.

So did it not really sell then for £1245, (no surprise) , I see the auction estimate is £500-£700.
