Looks like someones done the hard work (hopefully) so that I wouldn't have too!

If it were picked up for a grand and looks as good in the pics I would say that's a very good deal. I'd rather have that than the blue 19TRS auto which hasn't sold again at £795.

Were those hubcaps RS Pilot only ones? Can't say I've seen them on anything else?

And didn't the pilot have a GTI interior and a few other extras not found on normal 16s?

After standing for 8 years it's definitely due some fresh LHM, and I expect there are some return pipes just itching to misbehave, at the very least.

Good to see it has had a bit of maintenance done though, rather than the usual valet and £1000 price hike!

I messaged the seller:

"Hi, do you have a receipt for the work just done to to the car to get it back on the road, and what other service history does the car have? Has the LHM fluid been flushed and changed?"

and got the following reply:

"hi yes I can do a receipt for all work carried out the lhm has been checked and toped up, but any work a winning bidder would like doing can be carried out . thanks jeff"

hmmmm.....

Cue profiteering rant. How hard can changing LHM be?

I'd be more suspicious of "I can do a receipt" when apparently the work was all done by a restoration company. But to be fair he did take a chance on it, and it was free for anybody else to buy it instead. I reckon £700 is on the money, but who knows?

I bet it owes him about £700 with transport costs and all the bits it's had done so good luck making a few quid. Someone's bid already, looks a nice example.

The seller is the restorer, by the looks of it. If you check out the Facebook page, he has a string of some nicely restored classics, including a handful of 2CVs, a Renault 4 and Colin Chapman's Lotus Esprit. I rather think that he has his own trailer, so it won't 'owe' him anymore than the fuel to collect and I expect his receipts will be genuine.

He's jumped in and capitalised on a car everyone thought was a good buy but no-one was prepared to take on, and he's done what looks like an excellent job. I'll be interested to see how much it goes for, but this is yet more proof that a nice car will command a good price. After 9 years, I still would have wanted to change the LHM though...

Ah, that makes more sense, in which case I take that back. If he's running a business then realistically he has to cost his time at the same rate a paying customer would bring in. And seeing that he's got one bid already then it would seem he's pitched it right!

 #-o , we are in the same camp on this one Tim, although a petrol and so not my cup of tea I do think this is a very good value example and worth more than the current bid with the recomisioning it has had done. I don't think there has been any instant proffiteering on this one when you consider the sympathetic work done + the one owner history. Obviously the fact it is red detracts slightly but you can't have it all

Worth the £181, and worth the £1000 if the work has been done properly. IMHO this isn't profiteering, it just shows that BXs are worth restoring now - OK, it perhaps puts it out of reach of enthusiasts like ourselves, but if I'd bought it it would have sat on the drive for months, perhaps years
