BE1 box for 19RD wanted

Post by citsncycles »

As above really, I'm in the middle of a wheel bearing change, but have spotted there's a lot of backlash in the diff :( . I'd consider any BE1 box in working condition, as at the worst I could use it while rebuilding mine (assuming it's not already scrap of course [-o< )

I think i might have one, if it's the one i'm thinking of i took it out of an 'e' reg 19rd about 10 years ago at least and it's been under my bench all that time. The car belonged to an ex ladyfriend and was given to me because the head gasket had gone. I brought it back from oxford using a towing dolly and broke it for bits. I don't know if the gearbox is ok as i hadn't driven the car in the last year of its life.

That car is certainly the right age to have a BE1 box - the 89RD I owned years ago had one. If it is the one you're thinking of I'd be very interested. If mine's anything to go by I'd probably strip it to check the syncros before fitting, which would hopefully show up any other problems too.

I've checked, I do have the gearbox, if I remember rightly reverse was to the left and forwards. If you want it it's yours.

I think i might have two be1 gearboxes, i have another which i thought was a be3, it's only done 73,000 miles and i drove the car it came out of so i know it's a good one. I have just been looking at the engine from the same car( which i took out 7 years ago ) and noticed it's got the old type thermostat housing on it, does this mean the gearbox will be a be1?

Not sure about the differences on the thermostat housing. I know that BE1 boxes were fitted until at least 1989 if that's any help.

Hi Barry, I've been trying to PM you, but it seems to be getting stuck in my outbox. Please PM me a phone No. So that I can discuss the collection of the gearbox. I'll try to check the forum before I get past you, but if you don't see this until too late I'll try to arrange something else for collection.
