Rare opportunity - 307,700 mile TZD estate! - £prov sold

Post by Dollywobbler »

I seem to have got myself into a bit of fleet bother. More cars than I can afford to run. Again...

Sadly for the BX, it's the one that's going to have to go I think. The Merc isn't shifting and I'm not selling anything else.

To recap. Owned by Citro-Geoff, then WooScary, then myself in Feb this year. Recent work includes undersealing and cavity wax, but there is some rot in both rear wings that will need attention before it gets scary. Rear crossmember is sound, sills are sound, a posts, b posts and c posts are sound. Had the rear washer bottle out recently - no rot beneath it.

Engine is ok, but I suspect a slight boost leak. Smokes and is a little down on power. Still goes well though. Gearbox is the original - slightly noisy at 50mph in fifth but synchromesh is fine on all gears. ABS brakes. Light goes off as it should but occasionally comes on if you exceed 85mph. There's an easy way to prevent that...

Heater works but the control cable for the air flap has broken, so this is permanently open. Not a problem I find. Means you can drive along without the heater motor on. The radiator cooling fan is on a switch.

Interior is very tidy, especially given the miles.

Has recently had an offside front balljoint, nearside inner track rod and front brake pads as well as new suspension spheres all-round. Needs a nearside rear arm bearing.

Has a tow bar and the towing electrics work fine. Cambelt was done about 20,000 miles ago IIRC, but I have a huge stack of service history.

MOT to November, tax to November.

£695.

I've decided this really does need to go, so offers are invited. I just can't afford its upkeep nor the time to sort it out. My poor 2CV has been horrifically neglected of late (I've been meaning to fit new discs and pads to it for about two months now) so something must give.

So, £600 and I'll throw in a set of front struts (second-hand), a clutch cable (new), a throttle cable (second-hand) and you can have a spare right-hand rear door in the correct colour if you fancy it. This car could be pretty easily improved by someone with the time/skills and despite the mileage, would still be pretty desirable.

Hmm. I may need to know more about this Golf...

Tim - I've no idea what will replace the BX. Probably not a BX though. Perhaps it's time for me to take another BX holiday. Owned my first in 1999, then didn't own one until 2005, then not again until 2009.
