Sorry to hear all those problems have developed since its last MOT 2 years back, I still think it will repay your efforts to get it back on the road.

It might be worth costing up the made up pipes (I think the full length ones are under £20 each from Plieades) versus how often you'd use the tool. Or what you could sell the tool for after you'd finished making up a set of pipes...

This is one tool that the BXC should have to share communally. I have no idea how to arrange all this but would be happy to chip in for a share.

It's something that's been suggested before, but we've never moved forwards on. I guess it needs someone admin like to do the actual organisation of such a purchase...

I can't imagine it would cost much to post backwards & forwards between members, its just the organising & taking responsibility that would appear to be the main issues?? How much is in the club funds at the mo?

I've no idea TBH, and I'm crap at organising :( I still need to remember to post Kevan's joggling too back  You've hit the nail on the head though, it needs *someone* to take responsibility. I'm wondering if it would be best to have a separate fund for the tool, with perhaps a deposit when it's borrowed? It's all very well having the agreement between people we know, but there's nothing to vet people who join up so where do you draw the line at who is allowed to borrow it and who isn't? And that's the point at which I start to think "It's getting too complicated!"

Might be unpopular but to do this effectively in several clubs I have been in/am in we have found you need to ask for a sizable refundable deposit be lodged to control the tooling in line with its cost. This 'reminds' people to return it in good condition once they have finished with it. The option is your deposit is forfeit and you own an expensive tool and the BXC can buy a replacement and be up £20 on the deal. The other option, which I use for my own tooling, is folk are welcome to come here and use it. Great until your 300 miles away. Clearly such a service requires someone devoted to maintain it in some sort of order. My impression due to the car purchase prices, do not be offended, is that not all members of this club are going to be flush with readies, so this idea might not be well received as clubbing is about helping everyone, if at all possible. A club of mainly affluent owners can afford such deposits but bangernomics subscribers can not always do so, especially if the car has let them down and they are off the road. In fact most in need of a tool to save money.

I don't think the 'club' has funds as such. It isn't really a club at all. Thread Bear's reply seems most sensible if we were to proceed though.

There was talk about buying one a while ago (I think perhaps Tim was after one and I suggested we could buy a club one) but it didn't happen. I will give Pleiades a ring and see what the prices work out at, but I think for me, with two pre-coated-pipe 16vs, it's probably worth buying a tool for, unless this club plan gets off the ground quickly.

Back on topic ;) where can I buy pipe and ends? Are the ends anything special?

I'm almost certainly going to buy a pipe flaring tool. The club is welcome to buy it off me when I'm done, or I'll work something out for people to rent it off me if the club doesn't want to.

I could do with re-gassing some spheres though, so if the club wants to buy one of those too, go right ahead!...

I think all the funds are for use as running costs for the forum which i believe Xac is well out of pocket with over the years.

perhaps we need to get some more club members to pitch in with a small dd every month, say 50p a month?
