i think a gauntlet may have been laid.

was at my fathers retirement party over the weekend and as the ale flowed and the small groups dispanded to chat amongst ourselves our little group consisting of my dad who has owned more 50 cars, my aunt big car fan ex austin 1300GT '77 toyota celica now drives fiat 500, big moto gp fan, my dads good friend colin drives an rx8, and my 18 year old nephew petrol head big rims 10,000w sub, tinted windows, bucket seats in a 1.1 106, and 2 other guys eddie and alan the decorators. pints sunk and the chat turned to 0-60's, hp, carbs, turbo etc etc, i then later find out that alan owns a 1979 mgb gt which he has owned for many years and is still used regularly, and it also seems that after a few more home brewed ales the mgb gt and the bx tzd turbo have many things in common like they weigh almost the same approx 1000kg, the power output is similar 90hp ish, the 0-60 is around 11sec,the top speed is similar. they both have 4 wheels, they both have 4 seats... ish...they both have 5 gears..ish...they both have sunroofs, so alan being the good chap that he is (tho somewot pished at the time) has offered me a challenge on my next visit. over a 1/4 and a 1/2 mile, should be a laugh.

Ah ha, the old Marina Sports Hatch. Rather have the 1300GT as its probably quicker A to B. and was as underrated as it was underpainted. Also you can get a Messerschmitt car on a roof rack of a 1300GT, but you cannot on an MGB GT, these things are important!

as an 6/7 yr old boy i thought it was the best car i'd ever seen was a white one with real shiny wheel trims and a roll back webasto type sunroof, i remember burning my legs on boiling hot black seats, but i did get to stand on the passenger seat with my head out the roof all the way home, because you could then, it was called OXO cos of the reg OXO ***J?
never tried carrying a Messerschmitt on a roofrack but i have had a ton of slabs in the bx.

My 1300GT never got to B without breaking down. I swear almost everything under the bonnet was new or re-conditioned by the time I traded it in and it still kept breaking down. Perhaps I should have bought a roof rack and Messerschmidt as a good luck charm? Then again, perhaps those eccentric foibles are best forgotten.

i notice your reg also has OX in it, was this a london area reg, i think the white ones were the better looking colour.

It was bought in Bournemouth but the reg is not local to there, so London is quite possible. It certainly was an unusual registration but to be honest, I lost interest in it after the zillionth breakdown. You're right about the white ones - much cleaner look. IIRC, they also came in that 70s favourite mustard colour but called it something fancy like Old Gold.
