I'd say there must be something seriously awry with you policy details to be over £1000 a year (£115x10m).

You REALLY should check the details you've been quoted on just to make sure there isn't something blindingly obvious.

At your age, insurance should be coming down quite rapidly, particularly after your first years bump-free motoring. Got any accidents/convictions? They'll hammer you for either. Your occupation also makes a massive impact on cost.

I'm swapping back to my nissan when my policy's due for renewal so i can put the BX back on classic insurance (as classics don't allow the missus as a learner). The BX is £138 fully comp with an 8k milage limit, no garage, low risk area (albeit with 4y NCD, but i also have a recent accident showing).
I have zero patience for your tedium.

In my student days, I always found Endsleigh to be competitive. That was 24 yrs ago though!
They were great for me too, insured my first car at 19 for them at a bag of sand. Everybody else was asking for 3k+.

I've got five years experience, three NCB, commuting from a quiet postcode, am 22 and most insurers on confused were about the £500 mark, which is nice. Tried experimenting with all the big classic car names but as soon as they heard my age they put me through to their BARRYBOYS hotline (spoke to the most patronising salespeople) and started quoting literally thousands of pounds.

Again, shop around - my 58 year old mother finally listened to me to do this last year. She dropped from £1000 per year with Aviva's "special deal for teachers" to £100 with Saga, literally. As with banks, bills etc; you snooze, you lose!

I have no idea what bumps my insurance up. I've been through the details over and over and it always comes back ludicrously high for me, my first year insuring a 1ltr Polo with some (not radical) mods was £1800! I have shopped around, called insurers directly rather than relying solely on comparison sites, done all the things one should do to bring a policy down to no joy. Even the insurers are amazed at how high it comes out, but since none of them can work out what's causing the high price I just have to cough up, infuriating though it is.

Since I'm swapping the cars around next month, I won't worry about it too much, the Princess is ludicrously cheap to insure, comparatively, even on a non-classic policy. The only trouble insuring the Princess as a daily is finding anyone willing to insure her as anything OTHER than a classic, I'd like to continue building NCB if I can, obviously.

I've found older cars cheaper to insure too - my '77 GS is much cheaper to insure as a daily driver then Timex. One of the comparison sites sends me articles and thay had one about the cheapest cars to insure for a new driver. These were all older vehicles and included some rare and obscure stuff such as the Citroen Ami 8 and limited edition versions of VW Polo and Mini (the proper ones not that German thing!). I can only assume that these vehicles are on the road in such small numbers that there's rarely a claim made on one so the computers throw them up as a good risk.

As for why your quotes are so high - who knows! I know mine went down when I switched industries from aircraft to dairy. Individual post codes can make a big difference too. When the Police started publishing crime figures a while back I went on their website to look at Dursley and for some strange reason my street came out as one of the safest crimewise in the town, with others that I know have less crime coming out worse.

Endsleigh, as it happens, are one of the most expensive insurers for me on the market. They're returning some pretty crazy figures, quoting me a whopping £1600 when other insurers are as little as £700 for the same car and driver details. I'm slowly beating the price down, I'm waiting on a couple of call backs - my bodyclock is all to pot lately, hence this late post - but really I don't understand what's keeping my insurance so ludicrously high. Presently, Hastings Direct are the best bet, but we'll see what a couple of other specialists say tomorrow when they call me/I chase them up.

It all depends what happens with this storage offer, really. It's fairly certain that storage is secured for Stripey so I don't have to sell, but I'm not taking the for sale ad down until I'm 100% certain. Either way, the Princess will become my daily and although the fuel cost is higher, the insurance cost is consistently lower amongst those insurers that can a) find the car on their system and b) want to insure it as a daily with commuting use allowed.

Watch this space.

I'm checking out the premiums for renewing my BX insurance when it gets back on the road. It lapsed while in surgery and the quotes at the time (April) were ~£142 fully comp with a 3000-mile limit. When I tried to retrieve the quote last week it had expired (60-day limit) and the prices had gone up £20. Hmm. Well given the serious dosh spent on the St Tropez, I was looking to move to a classic insurer with an agreed valuation anyway, but thanks to posts on this thread I did a bit of research on the classic car insurers. Footman James didn't even want to quote since the car wasn't garaged. That's simple. Bishop Calway, otherwise known as Peter S Taylor quoted £111 inclusive with Allianz. That's a whopping 25% less than my best quote from the comparison sites. Nice one!

Insurance is inhabited by statisticians. They will work out that Darren's have more accident claims per head than Mike's etc. A name makes a difference? I bet they load Slavic and other foreign sounding names despite an PC laws that say the cannot. Hard to prove as they do not have to insure anybody. Conspiracy theory number 46, subsection b.

Funny how it varies. Last year I got some stupid quotes. I'm insured F Comp, 12k limit and for business use, this year its £196. TBH thats not too bad, its my daily drive and I could commute into London with it (if I raised the 12 to 20k limit). Group 5 is the classification for the 1.6TGS, pretty fair for almost 100bhp/ton.
You would need 125bhp+ in a 1.6 C4 to equal it in theory.
Weird thing is when the last one got written off I got lots of 'Whiplash' claim stuff. I'm still getting it everytime my insurance comes up for renewal! That accident was 4 years ago. Data protection - forget it.
Industry collusion, you bet, but so hard to prove.

Insurance used to cost more for electronics engineers on the grounds that they were more likely to be pondering techy stuff while driving.

But wait until next year - they suck you in with a good initial quote in year 1 and bang it right up in year 2. Been there and got the tee-shirt. If you change vehicle they load you with a £12 admin fee and if you sack them mid-policy, they charge you a £40 admin fee. Nice people to do business with, though!

With insurance, next year is another deal. They have no loyalty to their customers any more so I have no loyalty to the provider any more. I was with the CO-OP for years, then we lost our local agent and it was downhill from there. Now they are are as mercenary as the next lot. (Indeed most of these providers have lost the plot on loyalty, to the ultimate in hypocrisy with those smegging 'loyalty card/nectar point devices').
Budget, or some of their employees, tried to actually steal money from me. Fortunately they cocked up and I got a copy of correspondence which I sent to my credit card company. Funny, they could not get rid of me fast enough after that. These people can be absolute bandits and I do not trust them. You have to have insurance, though, and I look it mainly from protection from liability claims from other people redx . Another reason for Bangernomics. I can have a loss of a £700 car, unbolt my numberplates and take a hit. I cannot do that on a £27,000 car. New cars are a mugs game.
I have had trials for the British ranting team.

Up to now I have insured with Saga, paying £94 for the TD and £125 for the GTi.
This years quote for the GTi was £33 more so decided to shop around, Footman James and Adrian Flux and Churchill were all £140 plus.

Then tried Peter S Taylor, for a Classic policy with an everyday car, which I now have, they want £89.80. Thats for 3000 miles only its £132 for 5000 miles. The policy can be upgraded mid year if necessary to 5000 miles costing £10 plus the pro rata difference.
So thanks to those who mentioned this company as I have decided to give them a go this year.
