1.7td gearbox

Post by monkeyfeet »

Taken from body damaged running write-off a couple of years back. been lying around the back of my old shed since. Not brilliantly well stored but never drained of it's oil. Part of my clear-out so has got to go. It's the tip otherwise :(
Thanks

Sorry all. It's not for a 1.7td it belongs to a 1.9d. So 1.9 lump and gearbox for sale. Offers in region of 2 bottles of beer (it's got to go and seems a shame to take it to the scrappy)

If you'd split then I'd be interested in the gearbox. I could collect the weekend of 20th July. Has it been stored under cover?

If you mean would I let them go separately, yes of course, no problem (They're already separated physically). As to the storage side, well most of the time wrapped up, but as I found out this morning the shaft is stuck - I'll put something on to grip it and turn lightly to see what happens. And yes if you can't make it until July I'll keep it for you :)

I think that the donor car was either an E or F reg, so '87 or '88.

Sounds like it's likely to be a BE1 box then, but the engine could be either version at that age - does it have the large flat air box on top of the engine, or the inlet manifold with 1 large intake?

I think it could be a BE1 box, but as for the motor I don't think that I have the inlet system (I'll look though) - do you know of any other features that would help me to identify it please?

If either manifold is missing then just look at the shape of the ports in the head where they fit - sqare ports are early, rounded ones are late. If it's the early type engine I'd be interested in it as a spare for Timex, and maybe the box if Mat changes his mind.

Well I hope that this is worth a thousand words:

You're welcome to it Mike - I was waiting to hear if it had seized but I've just noticed it's a TD 'box which for some reason I had missed  That's the later oval port head though so unlikely to be a BE1 'box.

Think he thought it was a 1.7td box, but now thinks it a 1.9d box

Ah yes, I've just re-read the rest of the thread. I'll let Mike have first dibs on it though as realistically I'm running short of time to swap the gearbox on the white one, plus this may be no better.

Yes sorry about the confusion earlier, it's now been confirmed as a 1.9d box (thanks Brian!) not a 1.7td.
Makes sense as I've got the rest of the 1.9 engine but mixed it up with another gearbox.
