Over £1000 after 2 days, which looks promising and the Rover 800 is reserve met too.

At the risk of sounding (very) boring Tim, why not put the funds from the DTR and Rover 800 sale into a ISA for a couple of years. Out of sight, out of temptation so to speak.

How boring! My mum says the same thing (rainy day and all that, I guess shes of that generation as were her parents), but ive wanted a Minor for years, my jobs as safe as any job is these days so without sounding flippant I dont really need to put it away, obvioulsy if I was to be redundant that would change things. Plus I know me, if its in the bank it will get eventually spent on a new doors for the house, new bedroom furniture, meals out, etc so best to have something to show for it.

Lifes for living though, if I can afford it (the 800 and DTR are both £225 a year tax and the Moggy will be nil and the insurance is peanuts) then I am of the mindsight then why not, worse case scenario is if things go tits up I can always sell it on (hopefully for more than I paid once Ive got it up to scratch.

My grandad worked all his life untill ill health made him stop (WW2 injuries that crippled him in later life), was always very careful with money, never wasted it, never went far on holiday or had new things or had a car. In 1997 when he passed away my Gran found £20'000 in £20 notes in a suitcase under the bed she never knew about, I guess that rainy day never came....some of it was shared throughout the family (£500 towards my Sd1 was my share) but the bulk eventually went on paying for the nursing home she spent the last few years in.....which of course would have been free if they had "enjoyed it".

Mike

I want a two door saloon (dont like the 4), the travellers are too much money, the convertible isnt my thing and the van/pick up would be of no use. Ideally a later 1098cc, in grey, blue or white.....almond green, burgundy or trafalgar blue are at the bottom of the list.

Theres a couple on eBay I fancy, ones a bit too much (its a 998, witha few rust bubbles and had the original plate removed) and one finishes tomorrow which would be perferct but my sales will still be going through. Ive emailed the seller of that one to ask if it doesnt meet reserve to let me know but he hasnt bothered to reply.

My Uncle had a sucession of them in the late 70's when they were bangers and its a bit of a nostalgia trip! for me!

Would you? as far as he is probably concerned your just a leech (Great pun eh? ) who is not bidding on the sale but just hoping to latch on with a stupid low bid if the reserve isn't met, he's probaly had several others doing similar if my experiences of selling cars on ebay is anything to go by, he won't know or believe you have a genuine interest. Might be best just to e-mail him a genuine offer if it doesn't sell when you are in a position to buy.

I always reply to eBay emails, common courtesy, even if its a NO thanks. It was just registering my interest and wishing him well with the sale but a back up plan if it didnt go through.

Good luck with the sale Tim and equally good luck with whatever car you eventually buy.

haha I know, it was like something out of a movie, Grandad didnt "trust banks". Sadly towards the end of his life he was very infirm and think he just "forgot" it was there. I have never seen that amount of money in cash before or since. My Gran was having kittens and didnt want it "in the house" so it was swiftly deposited. Thank goodness they never got turned over although they rarely went out.
