Lack of BX's in the Classic Press

Post by Tim Leech »

Asides a few articles from Mr Dollywobbler the BX does seem not get much press coverage. Its 30th anniversary came and went without a mention. Where as cars like the staple MG and even a DS gets a article every month in one or the other more well known magazines. Strange that things like MR2 and MGF which are newer seem to do ok.

I have pinged an email to editor at pc magazine (no point asking classic and sports car) asking him if he has any plans to do an article in the future (they are very practical classics), suggesting one on reptastic 80's oil burners may be an idea? mentioned the club and what we do etc.

Wonder if I will get a reply?

to be fair they get inundated ,
I sent a piece ( readers cars ) about my friend Nigel to Neil Campbell at practical classic about a year ago, I got a favourable response asking for more photos etc but to this date have heard nothing further or seen the article in print.
Nigel has never owned a car that he's had to tax and is a bit eccentric,
at the time he had an A35, wolseley 16/60, rover p4 100 and the pride of his fleet a 1928 international harvester canvas back truck that was used in brideshead revisited and the citadel.
the 35 has now gone and been replaced by an Austin 1300

Oh and the P4 is coming up for sale if anyones interested

oh and his spare time he makes things like this

The sporty models (like the MX5/MR2) always seem to be regarded as classics before the mainstream cars of the same age, so I don't feel the BX is being left out compared to other family hatchbacks of its era. I think the idea of an 80s diesel feature is a good one though - a DTR Turbo should be a clear winner! Compared with the 2.3 diesel Sierra the BX TD felt so modern and fast, although to be fair the later Ford 1.8 TD was better.

Cheers Ian, would be lovely to see a BX, Cavalier, Sierra and Montego together on paper.

Thumbs up to Tim for taking the initiative. =D> I hardly ever buy classic car mags these days because it tends to be the same old same old; if you've seen one knackered old Humber Sceptre you've seen 'em all as far as I'm concerned. I know I'm biased but I do think the BX gets unfairly overlooked - apart from the 16v it doesn't even feature in the price guides.

I noticed another 'definitive' DS buying guide was featured on the cover of this months Practical Classics. Just how many more 'definitive guides' to buying a DS do we need!?

There's a slim chance my Dad may still have a few issues of Diesel Car around, so if he does and there's anything featuring a BX, I'll scan it and post it up!

Keith Moody dep ed of PC approached me on the BXClub stand at the NEC. He gave me his business card and asked me to let him know of any future events we had lined up. I suggested to Paul H that we could possibly do a write up of the Scottish Challenge and forward it with some pics. Worth a go?

Do it! The best way to get publicity is to send stuff in. If you don't, you DEFINITELY won't get featured.

Practical Classics are lined up to feature my Dad's GT when I've finished it. Danny Hopkins has checked progress a couple of times, I just haven't got there yet!
