Citroen bx DTR 17 scrap or sell?

Post by amatuerbx »

My citroen bx rear hydraulic pipes have a leak. The work to drop the subframe and fit new pipes is too much for me to bear. The original fuel pump had a leak and was converted to a Bosch pump. It fires over but won't start. This is also another bloody headache. Its had a lot of work done to it already. New cam belt, water pump, hydraulic pump, steering valve.

Scrap or sell for parts? Unless anyone want it for a price? 6 months mot and tax. Text me for details, 07534 615 308. Do NOT call me as I am deaf and will not answer.

Where are you based? Location might help us work out if anyone can salvage it. Pictures would also be good.

If you can be bothered, of your two options, stripping it for parts and then weighing in the shell will get you more money for it. This would also ensure that more parts go on to helping other BXs stay alive!

However, non-running BXs do seem to be hard to shift at the moment, although there's plenty of goodwill - people on here just don't have space, money or time (usually because we're already keeping several BXs on the road ourselves). But if someone would take it on, that's definitely the best option.

What work was done to convert it to Bosch? You need the pipes and injectors as well as the pump. My wallet took an absolute pounding when I got the front-to-rears done on my BX, so I understand your frustration.

there is no need to remove the rear axle to change any pipes, i changed all f to r steel pipes on mine without dropping the axle, if you are careful u can feed the pipes thru without too much trouble.

It does help to lower the rear subframe slightly to give yourself more finger room. Having seen Tim do this recently it certainly helped and the lowering of the subframe wasnt too difficult.

Indeed a worrying number of distressed BX. I fear on getting sorted out I could become another retirement home for such machines as I hate to see good stuff wasted. By the same token we are in bangernomics territory and the cars have to fit both pocket and time which folks do not always have, or can loose the will to provide on a run of bad luck. I think back to the late 70's when bubblecars were given away. If I had had a barn then......

Anyway without more info on location etc its a bit of a leap to get involved. Bad news is I do not do texts as I am badly dyslexic and therefore most of what I get sent is meaningless to me if not in proper English. Dyslexic English, I got a chance, but modern texting is a new language.

One of the big jobs I did with the old BX was rebuild the axle and change the pipes. I did not think it was such a bad task but again, so much easier if you had a car ramp. Message to self - get car ramp in new workshop!

It's mostly meaningless to me too, although fortunately most of the people I get texts from use proper words! I can see how text speak was useful before we had predictive text on mobiles, but now most of them have full keyboards there's no excuse ;)

Anyway, I've asked him where it is but it's unlikely I'd go for it unless very local. I'll be doing a one way car moving trip soon so potentially could collect on the way back while I still have use of the trailer.

EDIT - I've got a text message back (in proper English :) ) to say it's in Loughborough so too far from me to make economic sense. He's away for 10 days hence no replies on this thread, but has found another pump which he's going to fit when he gets back.

Not going near Blackpool empty are you? Rather bogged out with the van failing to pick up the Auto BX. Funny how all those folk who happily used my van for favours disappear when I need a larger tow vehicle!

Sadly I'll only be a mere 110 miles from Blackpool, but depending on timing might be able to help if costs are covered. Towing any great distance with a V8 is likely to be more expensive than hiring a van based car transporter though!

Potentially interested in this to cure my Xsara induced back pain.
