1996 XM 2.5td Exclusive -must go to good home.

Post by detheridge »

Hi folks,
I have my XM for sale. I posted on the XM forum lat year about my beloved 2.5TD losing power steering and
braking power intermittently. Despite replacing the hp pump the symptoms still
persisted. Since then the car has been off road in my garage's compound and
they've asked me to clear it asap, as its cost my mechanic a few hundred pounds
in storage charges alone. It's defeated him as to what the solution is, various
Citroen 'experts' have come and pronounced solutions (the last one's remedies
totalled £4K!).
So, very sadly, it has to go. It's been my best XM ever, and still has lots of
mileage left. I'd love to get it back up and running, but I haven't the space or
the dosh to do so. It's way too good to scrap.
Here's the spec: dark blue P reg 2.5TD with aircon (not working -probably
needing a recharge) and cruise control (definitely working). Most things work
including the sun roof and it also has an Ulm air diffuser mounted next to the
sun roof. Radio cassette works fine, the usual dodgy pixels, fuel consumption in
the upper 40s, recent tyres and spheres, no advisories on the last MOT that I
can remember. 191K, loads of history, and the garage where its stored has looked
after it for the last 5 years. In fact the mechanic there wanted first refusal
on buying it six months before this problem arose! Sorned since last September,
the only real problem iss this lack of hydraulic pressure, which is
intermittent.
The car's stored just north of Worcester (I live in Malvern). If anyone would
like to contact me off list I can give you the number of the garage and you can
get further info from them. Please give this car a good home -its fit for many
more years of happy motoring and I'm very sad to have to let it go.

Best wishes,
David.

Manual or auto, and saloon or estate?

Also, any more information as to this odd hydraulic fault?

Hi again gang,
My XM Exclusive is still available -Tim was going to come down and collect it this weekend, but can't manage it for several weeks, so if anyone would like it for £200 or thereabouts, please contact me.
In addition, I cleared my personal effects from the car today and found that there are now 2 boxes of spares, plus a pair of headlights and the replaced h.p. pump all placed there by the previous owner (who occasionally does work for the garage)-which is nice.
Contact me off list and I can give you the number of the garage (who've looked after it for the past 4/5 years) who can provide all details.

Best wishes,
David.

Sounds like a total bargain. Sadly Mrs Optix would shit a brick if I had any more non-functioning Citroens...

Well actually it IS functioning...but not all the time, if you see what I mean...
Sort out the intermittent power steering and brakes and it should be fine..

Hmmm, how well can you argue the difference between non-functioning and intermittently non-functioning?

If its not the pump it must be the regulator?
Or am I speaking from the blissfully simple stance of a DIY BXer?
The XMs are more involved but the pressurisation system is similar?

Hi folks,
This has now gone to a very good home.
Many thanks to everyone who enquired, and even though I shed a tear to see it being carted off on Tim's trailer, at least I know it hasn't gone for scrap and will give Tim many years of fab motoring!

Best wishes,
David.
