Any advice as to what to do about the (once silver) bumper trim strips? They let the car down (that and the white paint that's flat as a witch's tit).

There's only one tiny dent on the body which is good.

What are the trim strips made of - if they're plastic covered ally and they're corroding behind the plastic there's not much you can do other than replace them or paint them. The trouble with the latter is if they're corroding inside, the plastic is also usually brittle and breaks up on removal.

As I found out with the bumper trims on the XM. Fortunately I'd bought some replacements from Citroën. The old ones just snapped, once I'd started to remove them. I imagine they're still available from Citroën dealers.

I'm going to mask them off, degrease them, gently use some fine sandpaper to give a key and spray them black I think. Or silver. Or white. I'll have a think. :)

You could try some 'chrome' adhesive tape Phil. It's a bugger to apply neatly, but the results are ( apparently ) worth it.

Hi Mark, I thought of that but once it's applied and if it then looks crap (it might look like silver kitchen foil glued on - actually that's what it is lol) it's a bugger to get off.

I think several coats of satin black would be best - understated and easy to maintain. That, or a mid-silver.

And Paul, yes it feels good to have a Citroen again. I might well spend most time here in ZX corner for the time being (especially as there's a chance I'll be getting a second one next month), but it's better than nothing. I have probably had more BXs than most, so there's still a place in my heart for them! ;)

Don't just sequester yourself away in ZX corner Phil - as I've said before, being a BXer is a state of mind and has little or nothing to do with what may or may not be parked on the drive. It's perfectly possible - for instance - to be a BXer AND spend a great wad of cash on a Moggy Minor for Gods sake! :D

Those inserts I'd completely strip, rub them down, then coat them in satin black. If you're feeling flush a few coats of clear lacquer will make them a bit more hard-wearing. If you go with silver, they'll definitely need lacquer as unlacquered silver paint can make things look like home-made Christmas tree decorations (which in principle I'm all for - just NOT on my car!) :D

Yes, satin black and clear lacquer is the way forward. They're the only thing that really upsets me condition-wise. HOWEVER I only get to have a good poke around underneath the car tomorrow. Wish me (it) luck ;)

A state of mind, yes. I find that when you ain't got a BX you spend an unhealthy amount of time reflecting on the BXs you've owned and then start regretting selling quite a few of them!

My top three regrets are:
'RLO' the legendary GTi
A certain silver 16v ;)
A 1991 GTi in special-order Triton Green that had been 'worked on' including being chipped and was supposedly a 140bhp machine. Certainly felt like it.

1991 19TZD in grey (with two new quarter windows in the boot)

1990 16TZS (My first BX) which I swopped for a new AX #-o

1986 16TRS in Beige with brown interio which I scrapped as it had a small leak [-o<
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....
