Herringbone bits required please

Post by jamescarruthers »

After unexpected success with my blue rear bumper (should be fitted today) I thought I try my chances and ask for some interior bits in Herringbone (the red and grey cloth stuff).

At the top I the list is a backrest for the front driver's seat (someone, please let me know if they are identical each side). This has an appalling repair on it and is fit only for the bin.

Lower down the priority list are the other seat covers (except the rear back rest) which all have cigarette holes in at the minute.

I would also be interested in a head lining. Mine might have been grey at some time in the distant past but is now nicotine yellow. I have an electric sunroof.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi James,
I hope your keeping okay ?
There is currently a 1.4 RE on E-bay breaking for spares !

I've checked with the seller for you and he stated that it has the 'Herringbone' interior as yours, however the drivers back rest is ruined/damaged and maybe just as bad as your current one as it was already past its sell by date as stated in THIS thread) however the passenger side maybe okay but you will need to remove the material and sponge padding etc. onto your drivers side which can easily be done if you have the skills (If you have any concerns give me a call and I can explain what it entails)

Just to make it quite clear (As some folks on here have made statements in the past that the passengers side will bolt straight into the driver-side) it will fit/bolt in BUT there's NO threaded/tapping feature on the seat frame to attach the safety belt clasp as the metal frames are actually handed by just this feature, it's just the seat base which can be swapped across without any issues !

Anyhow if you call the E-bay seller on Monday he said that he'll take a look to check the condition of the passengers side seat back and rear seat-base for you !

I enquired about the whole car on that red 14, no reply as yet.

I hope the seller is more forthcoming with requests for parts.

Thanks for the information.

I understand the seats can be swapped side to side because of the seat belt buckle problem. I wonder if the covers and/or cushions are interchangable from left to right.

Hi James, I take it you meant to state 'Cannot' (Rather than 'Can') for the front seat frames

And as already stated the covering material/sponge/padding etc. for the actual front seat backs are swappable (Takes me approx. 90 mins to strip and swap a seat back) but what I normally do is to put the covers thro' the washing machine twice (Or even more times if the covers are really fifthly) before rebuilding them back to a seat frame !

Good luck !

Haha, yes it still is, but I thought it might be prudent to have a spare!

E-mailed the guy, awaiting a response but I'm not too hopeful if the rear is described as ruined!

Can anyone on here help still?

No it's all no good he says so that's a no-go on that avenue of exploration.

I'm keeping my eye peeled on eBay. I just wish there was one in a scrap yard near Cambridge to go and get the bits out of.

So, to bump the topic back up the list, I'm still after Herringbone front seat covers— desperate for the driver's backrest; hopeful for the seat bases.
