I have absolutely no regrets about selling my first BX - it was the complete opposite of Timex in that while it looked a good motor it was actually a pile of poo that was constantly costing money and had a 50/50 chance of finishing a journey (however short) without breking something!

I do miss the 14, but at least I know it's in good hands!

I do regret getting rid of my Ami's though, and my '57 AZU!

Over the Dennis (my long-time Citroen specialist) this morning, got the ZX up on ramps and had a good prod about. Car's nice and solid with evidence it's been maintained (new-ish parts including flexis and clutch cable), and the corrosion that's there isn't a problem at the moment (and to keep it at bay it was sprayed liberally in nooks and crannies with Dennis's cocktail of oily gunk). Brake discs and pads have another 10-12 months in them and there were no horrible shocks. The flexible joint on the exhaust, behind the engine, is blowing a bit. I'll get a kit and one day and when feeling brave will persuade Phil B to help replace it. So, seems the The White Knight is a solid basis for improvement...

And I attended to the bumper strips that were letting the car's appearance down badly.... worked out OK; The rear, which was the worst was a doddle; the trim strips are made up of a black plastic base, with a covering of foil-backed clear plastic. The latter came off easily et voila. Black strip. Front; not at all bad, but I wanted consistency. However, instead of try to get the top layer off (it wasn't coming away) I used a good quality black insulating tape and I have to say it looks not half bad.

/\ Notice the stains left by seven years worth of Citroen parking (although most of that's due to the Peugeot 806 - the ZX doesn't drop at all :) )

It might not meet with everyone's approval but I changed the trims for some I had in the shed. Glad I did; it looks the biz now (I think :) )

I'm glad you do! I think I'd rather have sprayed the originals black (or possibly white in a move towards a 'St. Tropez' look!) Still, If you're happy with it that's all that matters.

I'm picking up a set of perforated steelies off a BX at the CXM Rally which I will refurbish in black. The plan is to use them for the Challenge, with a new set of tyres on.

Found the wheel I have - god knows how old the tyre is but has plenty of tread on it, so if it inflates OK may be useable as a spare - I'll check out the size for you.

Hope to get to CXM this year, but will let you know!

Anyone know if the gearbox in a 19/na ZX is the same as the one in a BX TZD Turbo? BE3 I guess? But are they interchangeable (mine's got a lower mileage that the one mated to the potential 'Challenge ZX' replacement engine which comes from a BX TD).

As Kermit says: "The engines are virtually identical outwardly it is only the compression ratio that is different.
The use of the N/A cam allows more power and torque to be produced and the N/A cam drives the ZX vacuum pump for the brake servo instead of the HP pump on the BX.
If the above goes ahead I can do a really good restoration of the TZD engine and gearbox but the ZX box is probably the same so that would be a better bet as it has less mileage."

If I remember correctly, the ZX will have a BE3 box, but the ratios may be different. There's a label on them somewhere (can't remember where exactly) with a code on that tells you which model the box was built for. I'm only just getting to know some of this info myself, and what I have learned is mainly for BE1 boxes, but I do know that they were different for hatch and estate, not just for engine type - in fact all the BE1 equipped Estates seem to have the same gearbox!
