Thanks, Ken. I thought maybe I change the gear box when I would need a new clutch. I'm not sure if I wanted it now, as it would be some investment for the future. My gear box has only one drain plug, others in the MK 1 had two of them.

So, you think, the filter plus housing is an original part?

Well, as I said, I had the impression, too. But why shows my owner's manual only the Purflux and the later Bosch filter? Because the Leader was cheap and so the owner's manual?

And why isn't there any priming device at all? Is it why the Leader was the absolute low-cost model?

Thinking about the trouble I got recently only getting an simple air filter for our Renault 19 from all those motor spares specialists around here, I'll see how much effort it costs to get the replacement for the Motorcraft filter, and then I'll decide what to do.

For your Mk 1 Diesel let us know when the time has come, even if you seem to live almost at the other end of England.

An alternative manufacturer (fram etc) is a replacement for the filter you have. If your motor factor is any good, then they should have conversion books, so that you can quote the Motorcraft part number, and they can then supply the equivalent in whatever manufacturer they use.

The chances of finding somewhere to supply that exact Motorcraft unit are pretty slim, but a pattern alternative (which is all that motorcraft one is anyway) will be easy to get.

Well, let's see.

After my garage forgetting or ignoring 4 times to order that filter, I went to a very special motor spares specialist (they even have 35 mm hub nut sockets hanging on the wall) and they showed me 3 filters that weren't the right ones even when I got a part number with me and they have lots of conversion books and a computer and whatever else.

Then they gave me a filter to try out. This was to high but with the number on the box I saw that there was a second number on the air filter case that seemed to be more important. Bringing the original old air filter with me and that second number, they could order finally the right one.

This morning, I went to this very special motor spares specialist.

Just for a laugh, we looked what is there listed for a BX 19 Diesel, Mk 1. But there is anything Motorcraft or the like.

But with the short description (just in case, I got the car and even a photo with me ), he brought that from the shelf. It's from Mahle.

As it seems to be quite common, I'll stay with this filter housing that's already in there. Priming is only every two years or so, as my annual mileage with the BX should be 10.000 miles.

Mahle, Motorcraft, Purflux, Bosch ... you name it and they would all have a filter.
I believe there is as many different manufactures of oil & fuel filters as there are apples on a tree
