Last tankful average was 54mpg, i wonder if veg oil helped a bit, i did pop 10 litres in Most of that is commuting mileage, this car is brilliant on fuel as long as you keep your speed & revs down. It never really feels as though i'm driving that slow, the right foot is normally welded down, i just change up early without labouring the engine whilst doing so.

It must have been 3-4 years since i last did a lhm change, so as the weather was nice today i did it. A surprising amount of gunge in the tank & the lhm certainly was looking a greenish brown colour, nowhere near as bad as the 1st time i did it. Also noticed that the driver side strut return pipes were mullered again, thank you GSF for you shit quality, i bet they are only about a year old. So i've fitted a genuine citroen one, & i even managed to re-use the old clip I didn't bleed the brakes as i ran out of time & i've got to change the pads on the rears & i know getting at those is going to be a pig as the fitting kit is completely rusted so it'll need brute force to change them Hopefully next weekend if the weather is decent & then i'll bleed the brakes as well to get nice shiny lhm in them rather than the crud which i suspect has gone into the end stops. Mileage is a tad over 160k

Funnily enough i bought a load when they used to be cheap & when they couldn't source originals anymore, so i was loath not to use them, so i've finally over the last few years gotten through them all. Moral of the story is dont buy shite (i didn't realise this at the time though) so won't be buying anymore unless the originals become unavilable I've probably said this story before as well Kevan

Since the lhm change, the car feels softer in ride, the steering seems lovely & smooth, & it the car stays level for ages, whereas before it would sag down at the back looking like it was about to take off, lovely job Fresh lhm seems to have magical properties, try some

At 160420 miles the original windscreen was replaced today by Autoglass at a cost of £75 which was my insurance excess. The existing rubber surround was re-used & found to be in v-good condition. The windscreen apeture was in excellent condition, with only one slight rust spot on the driver side right at the top. I managed to grind out the rust with my dremmel before the new windscreen was fitted. He put some special paint stuff on that section which supposedly kills the rust & protects that area. Chap said that he's seen BMW's in a much worse condition when he's replaced windscreens and they were only 2 years old, that doesn't bode well for anyone who's got one, this was his second BX that he's done in 10 years. Correct green tint as well

The old windscreen aside from the fist sized hole in it, only had very mild misting right at the bottom corners so had lasted very well, but i've noticed how much clearer the new one is, clearly the old one had plenty of overall wear & tear on it that reduced overall visibiity, it felt a bit like going from normal TV to HD.

I'd also at the weekend fitted a new external filter onto the lhm tank which is a re-usable one, looks a lot smarter & because its glass i can clearly see any crap being grabbed & more importantly the colour to hopefully avoid it getting to yucky like last time. I'll post up a piccy when i get around to it.

Changed the oil & the filter this evening @ 162063 miles. The 5 litres of fully synth 15w40 was free from my new next door neighbour, cheers & the oil filter i bought off e-bay for a princely sum of 99p, god i had this expensive servicing mullarky

Still got to change the fuel filter, weather was a bit on/off today so that'll have to wait for a nice evening or weekend. Still got to bleed all 4 brakes since the lhm change was done & i'll have to change the rear pads as they are mega thin. I just know the bolt that holds them in will be rusted tight, so not looking forward to wrestling with that. I've painted the rear pad shields to see if that makes them last longer, i'll take a piccy & see if that works. In the past i've done nothing & they were rotting after a year & disolved within 2, copper greased them which made them last a bit longer, hopefully the paint will do the job

I'll second that, even in winter the fan seems to take forever to defrost the windows. Not a strong point in a BX.

BX a sweatbox? Your getting soft, especially with a white one!. Even my grey isn't too bad as it has the green/grey tint windows, but my RE was clear windows but a white one. Even when I took the Athena to Italy it was quite acceptable. Doubt a/c would work in mine now the door seals are too tired!.
I'm still not really comfortable with a/c but its probably just me, the rest of the world seems to like it.
Not found the demisting too bad even compared with other cars, though the newer ones seem to have a more powerful blower on 'em.

Even before I fitted AC I'd never thought the BX blower or heater output feeble; that said I've never actually used the heater on any car to defrost the windows - just a kettle of warm water. I wonder whether you're actually getting full battery voltage at the blower motor?

With the twin blowers though there is shedloads of air, a shame we haven't had the weather to need AC for the last couple of weeks. Went to Manchester Wednesday evening and it was raining when I left, but 40 miles from home I had sunglasses and AC on. Same story but reversed on the way back!

Agree with Mat, you may need to check the rheostat to ensure full blow on to inner screen for demist. I'm with Mat on defrosting the outer side with luke warm water, almost cold if -17° (yes it has been even in the South) but the inner has been much better or equal to many moderns than my old Sunbeam which was great at toasting your feet but clearing the screen - sloooow...

I once rode my old Morini 3 1/2 from Leicester to Romford (in the evening) in the winter 84/85 at an ambient of -17/18°C and every couple of miles on the A1 there was a broken down car. Thank God for air cooling and dry humidity - no cooling hoses, no diesel freeze ups, ....

Hoovered the airbox & the k&n, i'm always surprised at how mucky it gets in just 6mths of use, mileage now is approx 162400 odd.
