It's an odd model to fancy. At least it's the 1.6i.

But is the 1.6i the 103hp or the 80hp model?

As its a TXi it will have about 88bhp, a few down on the carb models 92 due to the catalyst. It's a nice drive and no solex carb issues!

i drove Robert Smart's ZX 1.6i auto and BX 16 auto (carb) a week or so ago. Both lovely cars, couldn't get on with the ZX suspension though after the BX! However the i in injection made for a considerable difference, although i bet the ZX is a bit heavier. Much more eager especially away from the line in 1st. But yes that had a CAT and i think they're around 88bhp whereas the carb BX is around 92/94.

Personally I don't mind the Solex carb. Other than diaghrams going hard especially in the autochoke they are pretty simple to clean and sort. The manual on my 1.4 was a doddle, the one on the Athenas a Z1 32-34 have been OK once you have the correct data for them. PTS over at Wokingham reckon they are much much better than the Weber alternative fitment. The carb from my first Athena had not been tampered with and it has only required a most minute adjustment to the factory setting to open the second choke correctly and a service kit. Up to just over 50mpg tells me its not far out!. Currently around 37-45mpg running locally and commuting to Hayling, on 63k engine.

With injection the fuel pump is a lot more pricey and then there are the Lambda sensors, ECU.... all nice cheap parts...

Good luck with the motor Stinkwheel, hope its a good'un.

Ive had good and bad with solex, I guess its lack of knowledge and people trying to adjust them. The GT has one, and it runs perfectly and never fails to start, in 5 years ive never needed to touch it, but a few other cars Ive had with the same set up have been awkward to start when warm and a tendency to overfuel.

The Solex in the 14 I had was fine, as are the Solex's fitted to the various A series cars I've had over the years, apart from the occasional blocked idle jet.

Ah the old A series blocked idle jet issue!!

I ended up carrying around a few spares just in case of non tick over situations :)

Ah at least you had an idle jet!. My old 1.4 (11 months old) was supplied missing this small piece of equipment - 22 mpg. It must have been idling on the main jet. It was strangely replaced after my pretty quick complaints about fuel consumption/slight erratic idling and ever after was OK.

Now about that brand new ZX with 3 wheels one size and the 4th another....... being delivered to a dealer in Chalfont. I had the cheek to tell the guy overseeing it!.
