These are photos of the original poster art work on display at the Byrrh Caves in Thuir. Well worth the visit if you're in the Perpignan area.

In answer to my own question - store it in a nice, clean, dry place until it is needed. Or I decide to sell it on to someone who does... :)

Fair enough, but really if I was interested in running on veg oil, (which I'm not really) I would buy a ZX with a Bosch pump - they're far more common. I drove my ZX Volcane TD on veg.

But I rather oddly like the way the Lucas 19's 'go'... and I am keen to put the best fuel in this one - to try to make sure it goes as well as it can given it's limitations - and make sure it can give its best come the Challenge in 2015.

Ta. Mind you there are many a slip twist cup and lip! But hopefully the car will be just about as good as we could reasonably expect on its 20th birthday, which is just before the Challenge :)

Just sourced a pair of new old stock headlights, which is good as the driver's side is a bit damaged. Combined with good bulbs and beefed up wiring, should be an improvement :)

Fancy a nice three door ZX? Petrol 14's are good - nippy and frugal. If I didn't have a white three door ZX already, for the price this'd be tempting.

Here's a cheap 1996 5-door 1.4i I've been watching. (Don't ask why....)

Rather a terse listing, especially why it failed the MOT, so I emailed the seller for details and he said:
Reg plate light, headlamp adjustment, CO emissions at idle, one brake binding, handbrake adjustment. Garage estimates at least 400 pounds to fix. This was the kids' car and now they've all left home it's a bit expensive for a spare car.
Now I can't imagine any of those are hard to fix and the only thing that raises questions is the CO emissions at idle. It's at £82 with less than two days to go...

I thought pretty much the same. It's been sitting and needs a good thrashing. Don't really understand cats. It's an injection TU, so I figure it's got one, but how it affects CO readings on idle is beyond my grasp. I thought a cat cleaned up the emissions, so perhaps it's buggered.

I'm guessing that the cat works over the entire engine rev range, they just test the idle which is probably the most polluting part of the car, so its more than likely just old & needs replacing. However, blow the cobwebs out & you never know, it might be fine.

I think, for that money it'd be worth a try. If you can't get it through an MOT it's worth more weighed in. But I don't see why it shouldn't make a nice ZX runabout.

Regarding my ZX, we did a 200 mile round trip yesterday - most of it at high motorway speeds. It's not what you might call refined and the bumpy, ridged, potholed A12 isn't a nice surface to propel any car along on, but it coped admirably. Half of our trip was at night and the headlights showed themselves somewhat lacking. I have before me a brand new sparkling pair of headlight units courtesy of eBay and will get some higher brightness bulbs so hopefully (combined with the pair of Hella driving lights we intend to fit) and a better power feed to the lights, it'll illuminate the road ahead far better.

I did notice at one point if I depressed to clutch going along I got something that sounded like bearing noise - but re-engaing the clutch made it disappear. It does make the odd squeak under braking too. Which disappears with a dab of the brakes. So there are some things that'll need looking at.

One thing I did notice: under hard acceleration there was no smoke at all, that I could see. Even at night pulling away from a car behind, its headlights didn't reveal a cloud of soot unlike every other diesel I've owned. Quite surprised it seems so clean!
