Saving the BX 16v

Post by Dalhousie2008 »

I have decided to keep and save the BX, i'm rather liking the car again now i'm not looking at it under a sheet and its been cleared out.

The LHM fluid leak turned out to be the accumulator sphere seal, well thats what it looks like, it wasn't very tight and once tightened the leak went from a gush to a drip, so i'll be at euro parts or GSF when they open to purchase a new one (although a seal would do it).

Then i'll be doing the cambelt and water pump, then replace buggered tyres and sort exhaust blow on middle section.

Then its off for an mot, i don't expect it to pass but i don't think it will be terrible.

speaking with rich about whats needed in preventative shell rot that will be the next job once its on the road.

My spare t5r is due to come off the road by end of november, so if i can get it all done before then i'll be very happy.

May try and get along to a french car meet of some sort.

It's the one for sale on eBay, its my car but I've decided to keep it now. I'm quite local to kitch, so ill be asking him lots of questions.

Pics on the someone save his bx thread in spotting.

I took the accumulator sphere off and the end of the thread is dented like its been dropped, the seal was very very shot and one of the accumulator bolts was missing.

A a guess someone has changed the accumulator, dropped sphere and lost a bolt in process and reused old seal.

Nice new one will be going on in the morning.

Thanks for the encouragement

Arise mighty citroen!!

Popped the sphere on today and topped up the fluid and it works a treat with no other leaks i can see.

Engine sounds very sweet, just try and get cambelt and water pump done this week if i get time, and exhaust then just find a cambelt cover and its off an mot.

I had a look around underneath and it doesn't look to bad bearings bushes etc.

yeah if i hadn't been looking at it too long with the cover off i'd probably sold it, but it will make a nice change to drive something other than a volvo and its a talking point (i do drive rare volvos).

hopefully if there is a meet or show or something you can have a look at it, if your there that is.

Need to find a Cambelt cover before I do Cambelt #-o so if anybody knows of one available, I've already shook rich down but he doesn't have any spare ones.

Replaced 2 broken exhaust rubbers and a clamp, the exhaust is now fixed, I have noticed from the underneath the car is solid. However the fuel lines need replacing urgently a job for tomorrow, ill replace with rubber, I've done a couple of volvos this year so it actually looks a lot easier.
