New job. Incredibly ludicrously unprecedented chain of events at new job which would be fine if I wasn't trying to get up to speed with it all at the same time. Add in car breakdowns x 2 in 3 weeks on top of new job = 6 hours a day commuting (train) and an impact I don't even want to think about on my finances. I haven't forgotten. I WILL get to it as soon as the fucking universe gives me five fucking seconds breathing/thinking time to even look at what needs doing and who might be able to help (trust me, I WILL ask, thanks in advance).

Anyway, the leviathan cogs of this years BXClub NEC extravaganza are about to creak into action. The first thing we need to know is who is going to be there and when with regard to manning (and womanning) the stand. All volunteering offers now gladly accepted.

We had a very limited number of free tickets which are now allocated (to exhibitors and organisers) but there will be a club discount for anyone else that wants to lend a hand.

Thursday will be free as that's the set up day (no looking at cars, no kids under 16 and just grafting etc.) and if anyone wants to come along and help that would be great. Exhibitors cars will need to be at Tims' (in Ashby) on the Thursday morning.

We also need volunteers for stand duty; Friday, Saturday and Sunday (not sure of the precise times yet but assume it will be 9 - 5).

I'm currently putting together a schedule (with a special plastic folder to make it look like we know what we're doing) so if you could post your name and the times you'll be available below that would be brilliant (if no one comes forward we'll just put the Kings shilling in your beer and drag you off anyway - probably). Ta very much. :D

I'm down for Thurs/Friday and Sunday to assist as required. Will provide modern German taxi to ferry people about, and valeting skills in exchange for a wrist band and light refreshments.
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

I anticipate I will be around Thursday-Sunday as I am negotiating accommodation with the Out-laws near Wolverhampton so I can slot into stand 'duties' throughout the show.

Not sure it makes much sense for me to drive to Ashby-de-la-Zouch to then drive back to the NEC. That's an extra 35 miles on my journey, so perhaps a rendezvous at the NEC itself?

A volunteer is worth ten pissed men. Anyway, it's too late - I took that shilling 20 years ago and spent it on froth and frivolity!

Has Mike had any luck with his suspension thing? I'm not yet sure what my plans are for the NEC this year, but I'll certainly do some stand time if I'm around. Even though I'm currently BXless! "Nah, they're crap. What you really want is a Volkswagen Golf!"

(Don't worry, it really isn't!)

I'll probably be there most of the time unless Friday proves to be really boring

Like Des though.....no point me driving north of the NEC!

Yep, it did occur to me that - for the Southern softies among us - it would be rather pointless driving to Ashby then back to the NEC, so a general rendezvous at the NEC might be a better idea. I don't think we've got exact times yet, but I'll keep you posted.

@ Mat - we don't have electricity on the stand yet - that needs to be ordered via the Classic Car Show website. I'm currently trawling my way through all the 'guff' that needs to be gotten through, and I'm not sure we need electricity - do we?

Thanks for picking this up Paul.

I shall be there from Thurs to Sun.

Don't blame Paul for the silly idea of meeting at Tim's - that was my idea as there will be washing facilities that are not available at the NEC. Stand cars must be well washed and polished before arrival, as we'll only be able to do the lightest of cleaning off short journey spray once they're there.

For the Southern softies among us, we've had it for years and it's great stuff. Lets you see stuff after dark so you don't fall arse over tit, keeps you warm and most significantly, powers the kettle. Now... if there isn't the facilities to knock up a brew, I'm not playing!

/\
As to whether we need it for the stand, it's been mentioned that the orange sodium lights don't show the cars off as good as they could be (not that I'm thinking particularly about mine with its several different shades of red  ) so independent lighting might be better. And weren't there complaints about paying extortionate prices for tea last year?

It all depends on what the majority think, and even more importantly whether there are funds available!
