How did you get on in the H in that heat? Germany in summer 2007 on the way to Sweden was absolutely horrific. We just couldn't get the van to cool down as it was about 27 degrees at night! We'd been hammering along autobahns all day at the heat sink effect just turned the van into an oven. Tried sleeping in it, gave up, then the next day, the windscreen exploded and it was all suddenly much cooler...

More recently we camped at the 2CVGB National, again with the H and our 2CV...

Whilst we have been here, there and everywhere in other old Citroens, the BX has waited faithfully at home for it's slice of attention or being used as a daily hack without grumbling once. I have fitted the front mudflaps that I got from Tim L (Thanks Tim :D )...

Image

...and whilst I am not a hoarder, I am quite selective as to what I throw away or sell. 12 years ago I sold my Mini (and regretted it ever since) but I hung onto the Rover branded roof bars I had for it along with the fitting kits that they were supplied with. Anyway! I was in need of some roof bars for the BX to transport my Dads ladders I am borrowing so I dug the bars out from my outhouse and rummaged through the various fitting kits to see what, if anything, fitted. To my delight Rover 200 "feet" fit the BX perfectly and so the roof bars have been given a whole new lease of life...

(Spot the Rover badges  )

Next on the jobs on the fleet... Well! The BX's wheels need a repaint as they're looking a bit tatty, there are a couple of patches of surface rust I want to "nip in the bud" and I want to start to sort out some of the paintwork.

Never a dull moment is there :D

To be fair we found that whilst on the move the van was actually quite cool. The vents at the front are very effective and having an (off) white roof really helps. However, as soon as we stopped, at toll booths for instance, the temperature rose very quickly... Joseph (our lad) got into the habit of jumping up from his seat in the back and opening the side door as we rolled to a halt and then shutting it again as we accelerated away

As for sleeping, we locked all valuables away in the handy lockable dash drawer and slept with the rear "hatch" open.

Well here's a bit of a shocker...

I've sold the BX

I've been thinking about it for a few months as circumstances have changed here at Sadler Towers... Melanie ('er indoors) has been undertaking a degree in Teaching and Learning for the last 4 years which has now been completed and she is now working within walking distance of home. As I cycle to work most of the year we would end up with two cars sitting idle for a vast majority of the week outside the house. (Not to mention a workshop full of erm... Hobbies)

What finally made me make my mind up was the fact that I have just paid out £175 for a new exhaust and in doing this, two further (relatively minor) problems have come to light. Fine for a competent DIY'er but one bill too far for an overworked teacher with other projects on the go

I gave a very good mate a ring on Friday evening (who actually spotted the car on ebay 3 years ago and passed on the tip to me) and I am really pleased to write that they are chuffed to bits with it :D I'm sure they will give a wave in due course.

So here endeth my custodianship of the TRS... It's been fun and the ol' boy has taken the Sadler family on some great adventures but it is time for it to move on for someone else to enjoy.

It is a bit lovely. Happily give you first refusal mate. Although to give you fair warning, intend on keeping this a while.

Agreed Tim,

Its a lovely comfy non hurried drive. I shall just have to learn to drive like Rich to achieve the 40ish mpg he managed in this car :)

It can be done, the torque of the engine combined to the box means it changes up at 2500 rpm and builds up speed nicely. I think 1.9 carb is more economical than my cat fitted injection.

The BX was collected by Matt and Charlotte on Saturday... I was quite sad to see Charlotte drive off in it but the ol' boy has gone to a great home so you haven't seen the last of it :D
