What is the script with buying a car with no V5, how can you find out if he is legally the registered owner and able to sell it?

I guess you don't know. I wonder if DVLA will tell you any details?
One thing I know, if it's in his name and you buy it and apply for a V5, they'll hit him with a fine for not informing them of the sale (guess how I know
) And even though they say you can inform them in writing instead of using the V5 when I tried that once they refused to acknoweledge the fact!
Nice car though - there seems to be lots of nice motors turning up at the moment!
