Well, despite putting it on a no reserve auction, the chap's waning around £450 for it!

I'll still have a look at it, but i'm thinking more like scrap value!
I have zero patience for your tedium.

If it doesn't need any welding and nothing major needs doing 450 might still be a bargain? (I suspect it'll need a shit load of remedial tlc though :( )

No reserve auction surely means it sell for what it sells for? Are people really that stupid?

Obviously he is going to say the figure he 'wants' for it before the auction has ended as would anyone else selling it, When I sell anything on ebay and get asked if I have a buy it now price to end the auction early I always double what I want; they either pay it or bid on it the way I intended and the way everyone else who's interested is doing.

Been to view it and safe to say that unless you genuinely want a significant project it's gonna be Spares / Scrap money.

RUST:
Rear chassis rail disintegrated (where 'box hanger used to be)
Boot floor holy
Outriggers gone completely
Extra fuel tank strap gone

n/s:
Sill rear end rotted + small existing weld patch, showing mildly in the door shut
B-post with typical rust
A-post (hinge) "pretty good"
Inner wing has typical rust although not horrific
2" rust patch lower in wing near subframe mount

o/s:
Sill rear end crusty and showing in door shut
B-post slightly worse than typical
Crusty along fuel line seam
Small patch welded on drivers door step (near panel overlap)
Significant jacking damage to front of sill
Inner wing quite bad (but not unrepairable)

BODY:
Damage to both o/s doors (looks like something was in the doorway when the front door was slammed)
Bonnet looks like it's been cleaned with a scouring pad
Front bumper very rough but not damaged
Crease in roof
General trolley dings.

MECHANICAL:
Rear silencer missing & crossbox tatty
Both rear arm bearings need doing
Fuel lines crusty
LHM weaps from both rear cylinders and front HC
Clutch pedal requires a stepladder to reach
Offside strut seals weeping significantly
ALL the usual remedials
Wheels are tidy but all tyres are shot

Didn't drive it, so expect other issues.

On the plus side, the engine sounds healthy and doesn't smoke. Although, there's evidence the bosch pump has been run on veg.

120k Showing, seems appropriate.

Interior is filthy, but tidy.

To sum up, if you're desperate to have one of the last Hurricanes you'll have to throw a lot of time and money at this.

Sounds about what I expected sadly. If you can get it for scrap (or maybe a tad more) might be worth the effort? Sorted Hurricanes are nice! :)

Hello and welcome,

Well whats it worth with a new MOT? good question, with the list of things Jay has given us, i expect you will spend about 300-400 quid to get an MOT, i.e. rear arms, exhaust, probably welding to inner wings and a bit on sills maybe etc etc.

With by the sound of it some tatty ish paint etc then when its got a fresh mot i'd be asking about 600-700 quid for it but be prepared to haggle a bit.

Its the age old question, are you willing to put a few hundred in to get the return of only a couple of hundred on top?

As it stands it worth 100-200 quid i expect.

Wish you the best of luck with the car whichever way you decide to go :)

Cheers for advice I work for Citroen so I think I'll stick it in a container and gradually do it up unless I get a offer for it then I'll let it go to a new home but in the mean time I'll hide it away cheers dan

Ooo, don't hide it. No one will make an offer. Go on give us a peak at the old thing. Might be what someone is looking for. Pics?

Did it come into Citroen as a trade in or did you just fancy having a go at it?

hi Dan

BX's are now starting to get collectable and turbo diesels are always the most popular, the hurricane was the highest spec available and nice ones fetch good money as they only made them for a short while. With a year's MOT and tidied up it may fetch high hundreds.

Give it a few years and they will be quite sought after. If you can do it up yourself slowly then that sounds like a good plan but dont scrap it.

As "just a BX" i'd say around £200. But as one of the last Hurricanes that someone covets and intends to keep i'd suggest £3-£400, but for that money you've got to really want it.

It's not by any means unsaveable, but you're gonna have to put the effort in to make it great again. The welding is no more than you'd expect from many these days (at least the subframe mounts are solid), but for someone to turn it round for a profit NOW, it's unlikely you'd get your money back.

Long-term investment as a spare time project perhaps?

It's value right now is purely down to the desirability of the Hurricane badge. Could go either way.

I was hoping it was going to be a bit tidier and i'd have squirrelled it away myself, the welding doesn't bother me, but in combination with the bodywork, it's too much for me to use my only remaining parking space on :(

Dan is a genuine bloke, he knows what he's got, it's just a case of finding a home for it rather than the crusher. His MD also has a TZD hidden away that he wouldn't let me buy (unless THIS is the same one)?

Agree with Tim and Jay. At the moment - thinking in terms just of economic expediency - the best bet is to break the car for parts, but it is a very rare and desirable car in good condition. If it were mine I'd get the work done as and when funds allow and in a few years time you'll think, thank God I didn't break it. If you get enough of the work done to get it a years ticket it becomes a very viable project I think.

I would tend to agree with the hurricane spec being worth more, but we all know what theory and reality are like.

Ive dealt with a few low price BX's and some rare ones recently, they are worth what people will actually pay you, not what 'in theory' they should be, if that makes sense.

Mk1 recently is a good example, it should have been worth the asking 200 all day long, i think im right in saying it got broken as no one would actually put money where their mouth was as it were.

I think the problems facing that estate were 3 fold - first it was an estate, and I prefer them to the hatchbacks, I know I'm in a minority. 2ndly it was petrol, and again apart from a minority, the only petrol models people are going for at the moment are the go faster ones. Finally, and probably the biggest thing against it, was it was LHD. Personally I have no problem with LHD, I have a couple of LHD cars in the collection, and ran a succession of LHD vans as daily transport for years, but it does put people off. Unfortunately those few of us who were willing to take it on were unable due to lack of space or money (or both).

I believe that while the Valvers, and to a lesser extent GTi's will always be popular, the type of models in the rest of the range that people want will change over the next few years. Some friends have seen this with CX's - GTi Turbos have always been popular, as have pallas models, but it seems DTR Turbo Safaris have fallen out of favour to be replaced by mid to high spec petrol saloons, as the use of the cars switch from high mileage daily drivers to cossetted show cars.
