BX GTi 4x4

Post by prc86 »

Spotted this on ebay, i'm sure many of you have. I have heard a couple of not so great reviews about the 4x4 but was looking for a bit more info and a few more opinions. I was thinking it may scratch the itch just now until i get a decent 16v. Or am i kidding myself here?!

Being 4x4 i thought may be handy with winter upon us and already snow warnings in our area. Glasgow saw it's first snow last week.

Are they really that bad? Anyone had one?

Cheers in advance folks

They're certainly not a bad car. It's just that the transmission components are somewhat delicate.

Exhaust systems are difficult to source, due to the rear drivetrain difference compared to the FWD versions. I would imagine that replacement components for the actual drivetrain are NLA.

Have a search on the forum, 4x4's have been mentioned quite a few times & there appear to be solutions available with the transfer box. Unless you specifically need 4 wheel drive, its cheaper to get a 2wd BX as they are a lot more straight forward to work on & have more parts in common with all the other models as apposed to the 4x4. That one does look to be lovely, so if you can get it for the right price, why not :)

Dunno if I'd use one as a daily driver, but the issues with them are well known, and there are fixes being developed for those that are left.

Would never be a daily car. It was just possibly a toy until i got a valver However i think i'm likely better being patient and waiting until i find a decent 16v. I'd buy the 4x4 and a nice 16v would come up the next day and i'd have no money!
