I think the thing is to find out where everyone is, then choose the place that's most central for most people - I'd be happy to travel if costs weren't too prohibitive.

Looking at a map I'd say the Red Lion in Crick looks well positioned regarding its proximity to the M1, M6 and A14, plus on the website it looks nice. Anyone been there? Really heartened at all the replies chaps & chapessess! X

Im happy to travel up to 50 miles each way, anything more than that just for a meet up seems a bit far!

Nice one Charlotte, I say go for it, it's easy shouting distance from Herts and Beds (Team Squires and others) too :)

(otherwise we could just talk about who/what/when/where for the next 3 weeks which is what normally happens)

Anyway Charlotte the location can be rotated so just do it !
Now there is a thought.

====================

Dead Lion, Crick. No I have not been there.

I have been in many of the Grand Union pubs along from Watford Gap, Long Buckby and round the back of 'Dave and Terry's' (is there a good Pub in Daventry. Its one of those places that does not encourage staying to find out!) to canal central Braunston and back down the Oxford. Crick is on the canal system but the pub mentioned is not, so possibly why a miss on my part. Without checking my notes I cannot remember which were good and which were not. There was a stonker near Watford Gap. One off the A5? going over the Grand Union was good. Has a well known heavy gate which have enjoyed applying my bulk to for lady locksters in distress, pint in hand.

Okay, I'm thinking the Red Lion for the first meeting. I like the sound of rotating locations but I think in reality it could end up complicating things for a monthly meet. If this location works if be inclined to stick with it, and perhaps make a northern meet for those in the frozen tundra of say, Lancaster ;-)

Now just to decide a day. First or second Thursday of the month suit anyone?

I think I may have to prepare some BX themed snacks for this! X

Crick was where 2CVGB headquarters was 'technically' based for years and years and also the place i met the bloke to buy my first CX Gti Turbo, nicely citroen linked for me (oh hang on Charlotte, i assume im down as coming anyway being your other half ;)

I would just say, lets reccy the pub first and ask them if they have any other events etc planned on said evening we choose, its nice to make sure you wont anger a landlord or run out of parking for a car based event.

They also tend to work best when lighter evenings are happening as those who want to crowd round open bonnets can do so.

Done a bit of organising of the 2CV variety and Motorcycle variety in the past :)

Good idea to check with the landlord that it's not solely a local pub for local people and/or that we wouldn't be clashing with another function in terms of space/parking, I'd just advise not committing us to a function room/dedicated parking, etc - or you'll find there's only 4 of you or similar embarrassing circumstance as those who said they'd come get stuck at work/kidnapped by aliens/meet a tall dark handsome millionaire(ss)/forget it's Thursday/get lost*. I have said in the past that organising the Rio Olympics in 2016 will be easier than trying to co-ordinate a BXC event ...

s'pose I ought to think about NEC 2015 at some point - AFTER I've moved etc.

As far as snacks go, I will try to make the traditional flapjack as long as this shindig is arranged for a time when I'm not living in my TZD, which, although beautifully behaved, is lacking in the cooking facilities department.

From base food stuff to full luxury in one leap. Ambassador!

Cheese shaped Pug 205's on cocktail sticks, lots of them, sticks that is?

LHM octopus fondue in a strangely familiar container? Bring your own flairs.

Hurricane TZD Mexican Bean salad, something for the trip home, there, on a cold night.
