I suspect that the montego is even rarer than the BX these days? You can put that Reg into the DVLA website & it'll tell you whether its still on the road or not, & if not when it last was.

I actually spotted a Montego estate the other day! I did look them up on How Many Left a while back as I used to own one (as did Mum), and they were barely into triple figures on the road.

As for the BX, Mk1 Leader? I do like the look of the Leader models!

Thats a Montego base, either 1.3 or 1.6, we had a 1.3 in red in 1985, which was amazingly unreliable and gutless (even worse with 4 up and a caravan on the back). Replaced by a 19RD the following year, if it hadnt I would be typing this!

Yep a mk1 14E Leader with a suitcase engine

Oh and big 80's perm! :D

My dad had a new 1.6 Montego as a company car and always has said it's the worst car he ever had.
I can even remember the registration D453 BAN.
He much preferred the Mazda 626 he had before -C740 CKR, I doubt either are around now

The Montego I had was a D turbo estate - most economic car I've ever owned, but not enough headroom for me, and the thing fell apart quicker than I could weld bits back onto it. Mums was an MG Efi, which was very quick, surprisingly economic, but stupidly high insurance!

I have to say people always said that BX's were plasticky, the Montego interior was probably of slightly higher grade plastics but the bumpers would shatter if you just looked at them!

Didn'r happen with the Montegos, but the Maestro Mum had before the Montego had plastic trim on the window pillars that crumbled away in the sunlight.
