Known problems:

Mechs:

. Empty LHM [with some rest of red oil inside reservoir]
. ZF4HP14 does'nt engage reverse gear
. Engine don't start at the 1st attempt. Need revision at ignition, injection and fuel feed.

Bodywork: Minimal rust, only below left passenger door have something to do.

Paintjob: Need new coat of paint.

Interior: Need new leather on front seats. Plastics ok.

Rims: Repaint and reform, change tires [Bald 185/65/R15 to New 185/60/R15].

I still didn't buy new 60Ah battery, hope in this saturday i get one of these. Will buy some fuel hoses and try to make everything that i can, new.

Red oil inside the lhm tank, is it possible that some idiot put in LDS fluid instead of lhm? Or the old LHM is so old that its changed colour? Either way you need to do do a full flush of the system to ensure that you get as much crap out to ensure that all the hydraulics are working correctly. I wouldn't waste any money in topping the car up 1st of all, i'd just get everything out of the system including bleeding all the brakes to avoid wasting money on expensive lhm out in Brazil.

Yeah, LHM in my city is difficult to find. I think they put red ATF oil in there :(
Soon i'm going to an oil shop, i think it will be easier to find.
Today only found Pentosin LHM. Bought new, 65Ah battery and engine oil filter. Coolant, engine, ATF and LHM oil are on my top list.

The tank is really leaking, its a rupture, i think someone rode it low, like lowrider and got the tank grinded in the road. They tried to seal with a kind of glue, but wasn't effective.
Only 205 Gti's share the same tank with BX's, i'm right?

Found superficial rust below passengers' seat. So: Tomorrow - "Seek and destroy" rust points.

And i think i will not find the Orange oil for flushing hydraulic system.

Tomorrow, pics with my "rust hunting"

Thanks for following this post, it encourages me

If you can't find any hydraflush (orange oil), some of our scandinavian friends swear by using diesel inside the lhm tank. Try a search on the site to see if you can find those relevant posts. I can't remember whether its 100% diesel, or a mix with lhm? The good news is that diesel is a lot cheaper than hydraflush :)

Thanks for the Diesel advice, it will be useful!

Merry X-mas, everyone.

Raised the car today, had good news and bad news too...

This:

In order:
. DISGUSTING fuel lines, all bent and in bad condition.
. RIDICULOUS (yeah, i got angry when i saw that) exhaust system!
Heavy steel pipe, bad seams and no dampener (empty space photo with the height regulator). 405's Catalitic converter is on the list ans it's expensive :?
New exhaust system, i think it will have to be custom made. If only i could find the standard dampener...I think it is exclusive to the BX's.
. Tank is really damaged. :( They tried to repair, no success. Pug 405 uses this tank? Is there a way to weld it? Is plastic, polyurethane maybe?

And that's all it is...

Using ATF in the hydraulics may not be such a bad deal - it's formulated to make sure it doesn't destroy rubber seals inside an auto box which is itself a pressurised hydraulic system so I wouldn't be too concerned about it. If you start to get multiple leaks at hydraulic pipe connections then worry about it but not until then. If it had been running with ATF for some time then either the damage is already done - or more likely it's surviving quite well on it.

Using diesel / turpentine substitute / or heating oil in the suspension is something you should do before flushing through and replacing the LHM - they are substitutes for hydroflush / hydrorincage - for cleaning the system before re-filling with suspension fluid - not for using continuously.

Saw today in a Portuguese BX forum, they use a mixture of LHM and gasoline for cleaning the system, in a 1:3 scale. Hydraurinçage in Brazil is almost impossible to find, i only have the various alternatives for cleaning the system. With the car stopped, i don't think there's some leakage, because the ground was clean, with only gasoline leaking from damaged tank.

With Diesel, i have to use the same proportion of LHM (1:3)? Anyway, i'm buying the oils saturday.
I don't know if the ACDelco Dexron III is commercialized there in UK, here its liter is in a good price...

Thank you for the advice!

It looks like it could be the exhaust that damaged the tank - whoever did it was lucky not to go up in flames!

There are ways of welding plastics, but it's not something I would want to do myself. It also may be worth looking into the shape of a 405 tank as they share the floorpan.

Dunno if it'd be any easier to find for you, but I think most if not all of a Turbo diesel exhaust should fit your car.

Removed the tank. And some surprises...

The exhaust system wasn't aligned, so it rubbed the insulator, it got hot and deformed the plastic. I'm still thinking about repairing it instead of buying an used, but intact part.

And this:

Yes, is a Ford fuel level sender in a "There, i fixed it" style.
Looking at the BX parts catalog, the original part is called "RHEOSTAT", number 92 552 015.
I'm thinking, here in Brazil, only FIAT cars uses that kind of tubular tank sensor. It is compatible?

Not sure about compatibility, but the same sender was used in a number of other Citroen and Peugeot vehicles, so it might not be as difficult to find over there. Or maybe get together a list of lightweight parts like this which could be bought over here, and I'd be happy for them to be sent to me and I could send them all over in one package. Just buy me a drink to cover my time and bubble wrap...

Mat, that's fantastic! I'm trying to find if the Pug 405 sensor is the same, but i'm not too sure. Loving this idea. Until the moment, i'm having a hard time trying to find only this fuel sender, that rubber case around the fuel pump [have only the big one, that encases the fuel filter and the pump, but not the round one that encases the pump] and its dust cover.
