Will a BX16 V Oil level sensor probe fit an 8V Carb engine?

Post by adamskibx »

Just seen a new one on ebay- Mine doesnt work (it reads oil level too high all the time). Would be nice to get it working again.
Cheers, Adam

They tend to read high in the UK as when the car is parked the oil runs to the middle of the car which as far as I know is where the sensor is situated.

See if it drops dramatically on the other side of the road!

Yes it will fit - but check simple things :
sensor cabling & connector.

The sensor itself is a pressure sensitive resistor element - should have some rather low ohmic value. On 16V's its located just above - and mid to the starter motor. My guess a real nightmare to access (item 7) :

On TU engines its located next to the oil filter.
All other XU types have it fitted rear on engine block.

Thanks guys, and thanks for the offer of that part sleepy. I would use the one from the GT engine but im pretty sure that had the same problem. I remember wondering what was wrong with it when I sat in the car and turned the ignition on-this was before I swapped the engines. Im pretty sure its not the wiring as its only one wire going to the probe and I remember checking this connection was all clean etc when I swapped the engines over. I also remember that the donor car read full when I collected it. I then checked the oil, and it hardly even touched the dipstick as it had all leaked out. I have sent you a PM. Regards, Adam

It wont fit sleepy - as it does not reach down the same lenght. Thats the reason why I submitted the list above - to avoid disappointments.
