Citroen bx 1.8td Hurricane, J reg 1992, 146,000 miles. Clean and reliable, used daily around town. Recently re-plumbed. Needs a little welding on one cill and a new rear wheel bearing for MOT, otherwise great. Unfortunately I don't have the time or inclination to fix it and need to get something newer.

I met the obliging owner of this vehicle and viewed his car yesterday, which he has owned for the last five years. I took some pics, (at http://photobucket.com/albums/b312/bxponent/ ) though my recently-acquired charity-shop digicam "aims low", so the upper part of the car hardly seems to get a look-in. The conclusions below are purely personal and should not be taken as an accurate buying guide.
The hydraulics, gearbox and clutch appear to be all sweetness and light: it raises and lowers promptly, seems to have good front struts, and height-correctors do thier business pretty swiftly. The engine is free-running and eager, despite a gummed-up intercooler, but I noticed some traces of rust in the coolant. It is coming up to cambelt-change time on the basis both mileage and time there's a bit of noise from that area. The car seems to date from the "sand-in-block" era of Citroen, (late '91 components seen) so perhaps this may be the cause of the rusty-looking coolant, as the owner previously suffered a silted rad. There was little trace of rear-arm wear, and the owner assures me that the rhs rear arm was replaced during his ownership.
It has been mechanically-looked-after by a Cit specialist north of Petersfield, and the owner is now running a TD Xantia and a HDi Xsara which he will take to the same place for maintenance. The front-to-rear pipes were replaced with Pleaides cunifer fairly recently. Alloys and spots are fitted - though the spots didn't make it onto the pics. Bodywork has suffered, as you'll see from the pics off the corrosion, and the worn wheel-bearing is evident as a speed-dependent howl from the rear.

Hey c'mon...that's a bit harsh. There are seven photo's there of the same two areas. Apart from that, the rest of the body's in pretty good shape, including the areas where BX's normally go.
I really need this to go in the next few days, otherwise it'll go to the breakers. Anyone care to make me an offer?

I agree, I've seen BXs much worse than this. In fact theres a guy driving round in Leeds in one ten times worse than this. First time I saw it, thought it had been abandoned and vandalised until I saw the valid tax disc.
Unfortunatley I live a bit too far away and don't have the space anymore due to a change in circumstances other wise I would taken this one on.
