Frankly I think I have a right to be more pissed off than he is as I've lost a contract so I'm not able to buy an XM. He's probably not worrying quite as much as me. He can be annoyed and disappointed by the situation but not at me. I told him as soon as I knew.

I even posted the box of Hobbit figures I'd promised his son. That cost me £12 and he still has the deposit I paid on the car back in December.

So I do feel a bit cheesed off too.

:( I don't understand why he'd be pissed off - it's not like you've broken a gentleman's agreement and left him out of pocket for a missed sale. That's what the deposit is for! Obviously he has every right to hold onto the deposit, but if I was the seller and 'knew' the customer (and managed to sell it again reasonably quickly) I'd be inclined to give at least part of it back as a goodwill gesture. But maybe I'm a softie...

I never promise to buy anything without actually having the money available to buy the item in the first place, waiting for money to appear a few months later is always a risk as Phil has found out. I was let down by a buyer when selling the mini, i kept the deposit & to be fair to that person, they told me to keep it & apologised. Still a bit annoying seeing as i'd had to insure the car for another month in order for them to test drive it & then i found out they were under 25 & couldn't bloody drive it anyway :( So onto an industrial estate & they could take it for a quick spin.

Anyway's, i don't know what was agreed or not agreed with that particular arrangement, & frankly its none of my business.

Well it's not quite as clear cut as that but hey, freelance life isn't always understood by people. It's a bit like getting made redundant every now and then without any warning. Sort of fecks up planning lol

Looks like things might be OK now as a new project's started. We'll leave behind the dreams of XM ownership.. It clearly wasn't meant to be.

We're getting something different now.

Well, this weekend will see our recent hiccup put behind us - and sad in a way though it is to not have an XM parked outside (despite being a petrol, manual and high mileage!), our new non-Citroen will be an interesting change.

Question is, did you buy the Rover because they opened, or did they set up because you bought a Rover? ;)

It's pure coincidence although I did check to see where the nearest specialist was before going ahead. But good point!

I've also been researching these for a while. Liz is keen on them, and the difference between this and the XM is that she is in support of buying it lol. And that means some financial help too :)

I've been on the 75/ZT forum and done plenty of reading (it's pretty informative and lots of pictures to help me identify spec/trim/options fitted as well as potential problem areas (less than an XM it seems!). Needless to say, this car will be whipped around to the local specialists asap as I have a reasonably long list of checks - (plus a service and a precautionary transmission fluid change) to get done.

Oh, it's not that obvious from the pictures: It's a 2003 Rover 75 CDTi Connoisseur SE Tourer automatic, in BRG Pearlescent and Sandstone leather interior. MOT expires 30th July 2014, now taxed until then too.
Bodywork and interior very good – two very small rusty chips at front of bonnet .Drives well and starts first time. Gearbox and engine all good. Part service history but has been well cared for. Had new fuel pump fitted in October (as the seller explains: "after my wife filled it with unleaded!"). Had new rear exhaust at last MOT. Will need 2 new tyres
(seller-"Selling as need a smaller car for my sons to get insured on!"). Air con works. Rear load cover and all headrests intact.

We were figuring on having to spend £1350 to £1700 to find one we liked - so the fact we got this for a grand means I can go and play catch up on any servicing and make sure the MAF sensors are clean/good, the plenum drain tubes aren't clogged - and other things I've learned about! :) Tyres; I'm considering a set of Kleber Quadraxa All-Weather tyres.

We'll have to see on Saturday, so my fingers are crossed! Never driven a diesel auto. This will be the first car we've owned that was actually built in the 21st Century
