Excellent response, keep it coming.

In the meantime in line with the event re-naming (and reinforcing what was started with the 2012 Challenge) here's the draft for the fresh new plaque.

Go with Pau. Mate has not really the capacity to host other than by using a local camp site OWY. No advantage to your original plan really. I will look at L'herme and get firmer ideas etc to see if that would fit in.

All that sound very well to my ears : I think I can escort you for some miles  :!:
Just two little things to be brought to your distinguished ears :
Maybe be it could be interesting for you to cross the channel Newhaven> Dieppe : just have a thought about that regarding the price and miles and at last it would not change your scheduled roads :!:
If you want I can organize one stop in Tautavel ( département 66 ) : deep south of France not far from Quillan : camping & meal could be provided there  8)

Tautavel, principally known for two things - chunky roussillon red wines from vines grown on granitic soils with a kick like a mule and Homo erectus tautavelensis otherwise known as Tautavel Man, who lived there 450,000 years ago. There's a museum of artefacts, probably best sampled before the wine. Well worth a visit on both counts.

Well done Des Smith : as I can see you already know quite everything about this place =D> =D> =D>
There is also some old other places to be discovered there :!:
A very nice little road going up & down can be taken after Tautavel lasting half a day & that can lead to some hot natural bathes : a fantastic relaxing place to be at the end of a day :!:
Anyway I'm part of it even if we don't stop there : You can add the 16 automatic TRS
I think we all can talk about that in Ireland 8)

I can modify the route and itinerary to include the stop over. I need a precise location, Xemes ;) when possible, thanks!

I'm also modifying the route to include a possibly reasonable scrapyard near Rochechouart.

There will be an updated and improved (including some interesting detours as hinted at above) route plan available to those who register in the coming months.

Which brings me to this:

I’m putting together the details of entry now. There is a charge, but as the decision has been made not to hire a film outfit to shoot the event (there's something else instead) the cost will be back down to more realistic levels.

Cost of entry will include:
12-page route plan book.
Car sticker set (1 large (bonnet), 3 medium (doors and rear) and 2 small 'plaques', a windscreen strip and/or a rear window sticker and a sponsor's sticker)*
An event-branded t-shirt (choice of sizes)
A limited-edition quality keyring
And post-event: a Souvenir bound Photo album/book.

Entry is PER CAR, so if desired extra t-shirts and so on can be purchased on top (prices TBA).

*In addition, I will be organising large Citroen Logo/Chevron stickers as done for the 2012 event. These are not cheap - possibly another £30, but if I get people's orders in sufficient numbers I should be able to get a reasonable discount.

So, cost of entry per car/team is going to be £85. Registration/entry will start in June this year. Final entries need to be in - and paid for - by the end of January 2015.

This compares extremely favourably with similar events... There's the Funball Rally this year for instance that is similar to this sort of Challenge in that no accommodation/crossing etc. is included (as they point out: "Full Payment covers the cost of entry ONLY and no other associated costs of the Rally which will be the sole responsibility of the Participant or the Participating Team") and that's £199 plus.

There needs to be an Entry Fee as there are costs involved but with the unique bundle of goodies on offer, hopefully nobody's going to feel it's unreasonable.

Bests

Phil

I need to add that the and of Jan 2015 deadline is there for a good reason as it enables cheaper crossing prices for one thing, but essentially means I don't have to commit to production of stickers etc. until I know how many I need!

It also means that, if I only get two or three other entries in by then I'll know not to bother lol In fact, on a more serious note: if there are under 8 teams I don't really see it'll be worth the effort, but given the interest I've already had I don't think it'll be a problem: Just make sure you register. The forms will be available in June 2014.

I really think 'staging a rally' (ie road trip) is one thing - sorting the route out and printing stickers and the like, is something that can carry a fee, and all events of a similar nature cost something to enter. This event, http://funballrally.com/faq at £225 (£225 per team of two, additional passengers are only £50pp it says) is representative and yet I struggle to see the rationale for the extra cost pp. :/? And at that price I might expect a paid-for meal/party or a crossing included...

Anyway, good luck to them... and as for the Challenge: well, it shows what good value it is! And it really IS.
