I don't think the union had come loose – it certainly did not want to turn with a spanner – when Tony and Andrew WEston picked it up yesterday it spewed LHM everywhere.

Its a long time since I drove a standard GTI, my 4x4 GTI is a lot less lively. The Sport has masses of torque all the way from 2000rpm onwards – quite the opposite to a 16V which needs revving and revving to get the best out of it. Its quite remarkable for a 126bhp 1.9l engine running dual twin-choke carburettors.

The Sport has successfully got an MOT today – Andrew fitted a secondhand HP pipe from the pump for the present and had changed the headlamp and sorted the windscreen washers. So now its just onto getting it registered – I ordered the import pack from the DVLA today. And need to do the NOVA form on the HMRC website. Andrew has a few small jobs to do on it – the driver's door window needs sorting, he's going to give it a proper service though its only done about 1000Km since it was last serviced in 2009. And sort out the door mirrors – Mike has offered a RH door mirror, thanks Mike!

Yep, go a door mirror sat in Timex ready to drop it off on the way home his afternoon - the base could do with a coat of that autoglym bumper and trim restorer as it's a bit faded, but the rest is good, including the lever on the inside! Andy found a LH sun visor while looking in his stock for mirrors so Timex will soon have a full set!

Gotta say, lovely looking car, even under the bonnet - those twin Solexes look fantastic! Can't understand those stories about how they couldn't get that set up in a RHD shell though!
