Mk1 16 TRS w. tax, ticket, history at specialist - £150

Post by tom »

Public service announcement - I have no connection with the seller.

Andy Lamb at the Curbridge Motor Company, Hampshire, has a taxed and ticketed ex-customer's Mk1 1600RS auto in the usual various shades of red that needs a home - he's asking £150.

He can show you solid mechanical history for much of its 20-odd years , continous one-couple ownership afer the first year or so, and it has the remains of aircon (decoupled compressor left in place after the condensor disintegrated and was removed, twin-ventilation fans in the scuttle - maybe a few other bits and bobs possibly including a drier, but don't take my word on that). Hydraulics healthy and brisk, replacement Weber carb, 190k-ish miles with no head-off work and I'm told it isn't using any oil/water, and never has. Scruffy inside and out in the way that regularly-used Mk1s do get, it will need some tinworm treatment around the filler-cap area, but I am told it is structurally healthy. Under the seat-covers the interior is in a slightly scratchy light brown synthetic-looking fabric with deeper brown plastics on dashboard, lego dash and the other usual trim bits.

Worth saving if you've got a yen for a Mk1 runner and can afford the fuel consumption, but not a concours car by any stretch of the imagination. I'm quite tempted myself but money and space don't allow me to indulge my Mk1 weaknesses at this point in time. Curbridge is roughly half-way between Southampton and Fareham/Portsmouth - the address and contact details should be in the specialist list on the BXclub site. Worth a call for his current stock of BX bits too, including some original wings, doors and headlights, which will be taking a day-trip to the Midlands soon (as CCC club members may already be aware).

The above post was placed by me under Tom's login: I had forgotten that Tom's PC logged him straight in. Tom is NOT thinking of getting into Mk1-land... but I might somedays if circumstances, luck and my masochistic tendencies allow.

I can't remember as it's now two weeks since I firstr spotted this car and got the info, but I'm sure it's at least a couple of months. Andy Lamb will not be available until Tuesday, but I'm sure he'd bite off your arm if you make an offer in the region indicated! Please remember it's a very original and mechanically well-looked-after Mk1, Vanny: one of very few left in this sort of state, though most of them seem to be 16TRSs as they are the ones driven most gently!
