citromobile 2014

Post by citsncycles »

As some of you will know, I failed in my quest to have the scruffiest car at Citromobile last year after Timex blew his cylinder head the day before I was due to sail. So I'm having another go this year, and wondered if anyone else was thinking of going?

It's at Haarlem, which I think is near Amsterdam, and is over the 1st weekend in May. My current plan is to go over either Friday afternoon or early Saturday morning, stay at a local camp site so that I can go both days, then come back sunday night.

Here's a link for more details:

Booked the ferries now - Sailing out with DFDS to Dunkirk 2am Saturday, and back on the same route 2am Monday. Cost £62.40 with the discount code E14EBO There are other sailings but they were more expensive.

I had a look at their campsite links and found a likely candidate here:

http://www.campingamsterdamsebos.nl/en/home" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

They're a few km down the road from the event, and erring on the side of caution (as Sat is high rate and Sunday low!) it looks like 16 Euro for a car and tent, of if you're a passenger with your own tent 10 Euro. For those who don't do canvas they have cabins etc. from 40 Euro upwards.

I've had a look at crossings from Newcastle to Ijmuiden Mike. Crossings seem very expensive though. How did you get the offer code? I'd be interested in going if I can share costs.

I'm a pretty regular customer on the Dover/Dunkirk route (2-3 times a year), so they tend to email me these offer codes. For me it's the best way to Europe, especially if you're heading east of France. I know it's more driving from your part of the world, but it may work out cheaper overall.

Today was the first day of Citromobile 2014 at Haarlem in the Netherlands. I met up with Mike Sims soon after getting in and Barry from Bourne a bit later on… Timex was parked in a row of immaculate 2CVs:

And my Sport went to its first International meeting. Its proved ideal cruising at 130–140kph on the French and Dutch motorways – happier at that speed than 70–75 mph on English motorways where its a bit boomy. I've found some BX parts – including a wiper motor, NOS BX glovebox lid, some exterior trim strips (I think) for the van, a BX door seal and a spare speedo cable and wiper switch for the Sport. Citromobile is full of stalls for 2CV, DS/Id, Traction Avant parts but there areBX parts to be found. Next time I'll go armed with parts numbers for the parts I'm looking for…

And there's news from Citrovisie who publish a Dutch language Citroen magazine of a new book in the offing on the BX. If its anything like as comprehensive as the book they have just done on the CX it will be very worthwhile waiting for… The CX book is 360 pages long with even details of the upholstery fabrics used from year to year. Details of how the BX book is getting along will be published on https://www.facebook.com/citrovisie

Great stuff. I love seeing Timex lowering the tone wherever it goes. That car really couldn't have gone to a better home!

I just had a look at Citrovisie's FB page - I hope their new BX book is like their recent CX book; it'll certainly be worth the wait if it is. [-o<

Once I've got round to getting the pics off the camera, I'll post some up - Plenty of BX's to see there including a Digit, a GT that only needed a tailblazer to be the mirror image of Tim's, a Mk1 Leader, and a few Limited editions I've not seen (Top, Cannes etc....

For those of a commercial leaning, how about an LNA Enterprise, or (the one I'd have brought back if I had the money) a 2.1TD XM Van!

After recently spending some time in a CX ambulance, I rather like the idea of a Petit XM ambulance. :-)

Several ambulances there, both CX and DS, but I don't remember seeing an XM one there, and there certainly wasn't any BX or GS ones around, unless I missed them on Saturday - I was told on Sunday that there had been a French registered Mk1 estate there the previous day that I didn't see #-o

Anyway, bought a few bits and pieces for the BX's, GS and Visa.
