Very nice Mr B!

Did you use a plastic primer underneath? My Meteors both have sun damaged paint on their spoilers... although the ebay car looks better on it: it has a matt crackle finish compared to the peeling lacquer of the other car. I have a can of Mercury Grey so I'm planning to have a go at respraying it at some point - might practice on the other car first! I did start sanding its spoiler down a few months ago!

I`ve got a sort of theory about damaged paint on rear spoilers. Most of the ones I`ve seen have damaged paint around the top of the off side and I reckon it`s because people lean on them when filling up at the petrol station.

Nothing to do with the increase in temperature during the summer causing the plastic to become softer and more flexible and the paint not being flexible nece why most have crazing all over the top sections of the spoiler then????

And there I was thinking that it was from use as a convenient shelf for beer or picnics that made the paint fall off!

I suppose this means that a plasticiser shoule be used in any paint to be used. It may be worth finding a specialised auto paint supplier and chatting to him - he may even be able to mix suitable paint for you and put it in aerosols.

Hi Folks,

Yes, and the other advantage of the hoop spoiler, it stops the shopping falling off the tail gate...

Incidently, I have enquired on other forums to see if there are any performance details on the two types of rear spoilers, and to date none have come to light..
Unless any one knows different !!!...

So I can only assume the spoiler is purely cosmetic.

Cheers

:D :D

i idd hear that the spoilers are semi worthless due the the self leveling suspension on the bx's and the increased downforce pushing the back down for road handling and the car counteracting by pumping the suspension back up???? i could be way off here but am sure i read that on here a fair while back??????

The theory about adverse effects on the brakes/suspension came from a guy who is a Cit specialist over here who had some competitve experience with Cits up to the CX.
On the CX I had, a spoiler was fitted and I asked his opinion of its effect when I suspected a couple of strange side effects involving stability that only happened after the spoiler was fitted mainly a discernable settling down at the rear. However, the CX also only had a standard '70's style front bumper unlike more modern designs (especially the 16V) which also incorporate a front air dam in their designs obviously to counter the downward effect of the rear one and give a more integrated approach.
It's also impossible to compare the effect on the two cars due to the totally different suspension systems used on both vehicles, wheelbases and overall weight.

Errr no  I just flatted the paint with fine wet and dry paper without being wet  Blew off with the airline, then blasted with satin black. It's just survived a 500+ mile round trip to London in sun, wind and pouring rain without flaking or peeling 8) so I'm pleased!

Jon (at least I think it was you), you sent me two BXClub stickers. I only used one on the BX so I have a spare... should I stick it on the GS? Will it protect it, or just make matters worse?

That's 'cos you pushed it too far! 1 or 2 is enough for the best anti-corrosive and anti-breakdown effects, but having over 20 in the car pushed it too far, and the car evedently couldn't cope!

All things in moderation.

I couldnt agree more, I have a small pile of them next to my printer which is now playing up something rotten, one is probably the best number of them.
