That's probably where it'll end up although I thought it only fair to offer it here first, since it was from here that I was able to acquire it in the first place.

To be honest, I don't really want to see it go, but personal circumstance, not to mention the old dragon woman dictate otherwise. But like I said in the original post, there's no hurry, it's not hurting anything here.

No, but he's taking all the spare parts I have with it, not that there's much but there was a brand new octopus which proves the story "keep one on the shelf and you'll never need it" the only thing I'm not including in the sale although he does want to buy it is, one of the hand held pipe flaring tools, how much should I ask for it?

Hi Ken,
If its the Pleiades 3.5mm O/D like the one below (In GWO/condition) I'd say at least £80 as I'm sure if you E-bayed it you'd get even more, if you listed it for a Worldwide audience (Rather than just the UK) !

Image

As I'm sure your well aware of the Automec/Oakes brands are bench mounted which aren't really as useful as the Pleiades one above which are more useful so as to make an 'In-stu' repair/splice if required !

This one £149.99 + £5.50 postage :-

Heres one @ £149 + £8.95 postage :-

Automec @ £294.50 + £5 postage :-

But you can buy them direct for £137.39 as John (xmexclusive) on the XM FORUM did, however that was with only the 3.5 mm and 4.5mm punch/dies !
xmexclusive wrote:With reference to the ebay item identified above by Kit.
The tool shown is similar to the one I have ordered with 3.5 & 4.5mm dies instead of the standard ones.
I went direct to the manufacturer and obtained a substantial discount.
Automec Oakes Tools - 01280 822 818
dsmith@automec.co.uk

While I will mainly use the tool for off car pipe manufacture I also intend to try to modify it for occasional on car use.
The critical factors that made me pay out for this particular tool were:-
Expected high volume useage - 5 or 6 rear subframes to refit with CuNic.
Angled clamps to maximise pipe clamp and grip.
Screw pressure rather than impact to form flare.
Pliades could not supply the 4.5mm tool that I have been requesting for well over a year.

I expect this tool to produce consistent, high quality flares with virtually no failures.
Failures, even occasional ones are a real pain particularly if it is the second one on a pipe already cut to length.
Screw pressure tools can be more compact and are also more likely to be useable on car in a confined space.
Had the Pliades tools not been out of production I would have bought and not looked elsewhere.

xmexclusive wrote:Tool delivered today.
Version is the mid range model. 3.5 & 4.5mm dies.
Bit heavier constructed than those in the ebay pictures.
Came packed in a plastic tool box with a sheet of instructions.
Sample flared pipes included made with the actual dies supplied.
Cost was £137.39 delivered.
Will put up a bit more information once I have tried the tool out.

John

Ken if you do sell the flaring tool, I take it then this is definitely the end of Citroens with Hydraulics for you then (As per you signature) ?

Yep, that the one. Very useful thing as you can repair pipes while still on the car.

I don't know what he's gonna do with the car as I sold it for £140 scrap value plus the parts, so I don't feel like giving it away but have given him first shout on it.
