Kerry 19TRS auto

Post by maxgreenwood »

I'd be interested to know what people think about this one. It's the Irish 19TRS i've mentioned on here before - now with pics!

Now i looked at this and drove it last summer. Surprisingly solid rust wise, apart from the seam above the driver's door hinge which is split, needs a plate welding in i would think. Front wheel arches just starting to go, boot ok.
115k or 135k miles i think, can't remember which. box changed ok, bit of a tappety type clickety noise from the engine. Ran ok when warmed up, pulled well.
Low on LHM, + Pump belt missing alot of teeth! so steering was intermittent.
Accumulator needs changing, other spheres not too bad.
Lovely colour, bonnet and roof have been re-sprayed a few years back.
Hasn't had a test or oil for yonks, although i gather it was very well looked after by a main citroen dealer owner before this guy got it about 10 years ago.
Difficult to start
Windscreen needs replacing - can this be done on insurance these days? i don't know.
Obviously the seats have seen better days.
ABS light was on if i recall correctly
rear arm bearings seemed ok
needs a cambelt! and a whole lot else - full resto project really, but.. a nice machine... and.... it has aircon, which apparently worked a few years ago. The extra rad in there is looking a bit crusty though.

I've been on to the owner for months umming and ahing about it, i'd have to trailer it home really to be safe. Tyres hold air for days to weeks apparently. And his price is a bit high for a car which needs so much work.

Lovely looking car and looks like an easy fix more or less. How much does he want for it?

If it was a rattly and tired old diesel with shit paint he might be pushing it, but that is a very pretty car and looks really tidy apart from the slight rust issues - and they don't look too bad. The lovely rare colour, opera windows, alloys and spoiler do it for me as well - although I am very shallow. :) I'd pay 300 quid for it if it's as good as it looks in the pics.

It's not as good as it looks in the pics, and it's 5 hours away. Be a fun trip tho would need to trailer or I could risk driving it but I'm afraid the windscreen would crack more with that door seam opening up. Spoiler is flaky and the mileage is quite high and it hasn't been looked after for years, but yes it is a nice spec

Max, I have a simple question !

You state that you actually saw this BX and drove it last summer and its now F/S, what's suddenly changed that its available (After going to the expense of Flying-over From Ireland to EMA/Buying/MOTing/Ferrying back Demag's/Preacher's old BX) :?

its been available since then, but i took the plunge on the 16 as it was so cheap, i was put off by the amount of work the 19trs would need.. but then if i get it back, i can take my time over recommisioning it..

and i needed a tow bar.. which i now have on the 16

i might get the 16 sorted and bring it back to sell perhaps. It's a solid car now with a year's MOT, just needs rear arm bearings.

But it's oh so good to have fun driving a BX again. The engine in the 16TXS is great, Weber carb i think, almost feels like a GTi. I like those seats and the black interior too, economical also.. and i like the manual.. gave it a service today, oil and filters. Coolant looks a bit brown tho.

Best colour Max. And aircon. Screens can usually be done on insurance but check the small print first, they might stipulate what glass company to use.

I'm going for it! Plan is to pay and get recovered to Dublin. I'll then work on it as and when to bring it back to spec. Meanwhile I'm keeping and enjoying the 16TXS which I may bring back and sell in the uk in a few months.

Will report back with progress.
