Is this a BX grommet?
Found under the passenger's seat along with 24 years' worth of dust, a red wallplug and a handful of cold gravel... Is this from a BX, and if so, why has it ended up under the seat?

maybe its to blank the clutch cable hole on the n/s (LHD models)?? i recall something similar on my mk1, but that was moons ago.

My guess would be that it is not from a BX, or indeed a car. To pinpoint how it got there would be a task akin to finding out how our galaxy was formed, I think.

I like the theory about the clutch cable blanking grommet and if not from a BX I take the point about the likely origin, which raises the prospect of alternative uses...
EPDN = Ethylene-propylene-non-conjugated diene rubber. According to the omnipotent Wikipedia, "the main properties of EPDM are its outstanding heat, ozone and weather resistance. The resistance to polar substances and steam are also good. It has excellent electrical insulating properties. It has good resistance to ketones, ordinary diluted acids and alkalines."
Can I ask for suggestions? At the moment, we have:
A hat for a rather small person, possibly one working working in extreme conditions.

One theory I just had, which I can not prove as mine is not there, is that it's a brake pedal sponge effect creator, making it brake more conventionally. Personally I am glad mine is missing as the brake response is perfectly linear in relation to force applied without it, and I prefer the zero travel once the pedal hit's the button.

This is a very strong metal spring in encased in a telescopic cup.

There is (apparently - I've never actually had a BX with it present!) a rubber piece to go between the metal encased spring and the doseur plunger.

A spring - that's interesting. Mine no longer has this spring. If you think about it, it's better off without the spring as it makes the brakes more old Citroen like. Unless it's a variable rate spring, it can only impede the linear progression of the brake force verses braking effort. I just need something solid to replace my spring to take up the 2cm dead travel.

I've welded mine solid, for these very reasons. The only Mk1 I've driven didn't have the spring, but also was minus ABS so not a true direct comparison with the ABS equipped Mk2s I had at the time.

In fact what I might do is limit the extent to which the pedal moves away from the dossier button, but I am kind of used to it now anyway; It was just a little confusing when the spring vanished at first... As though changing brake pads would have an effect (which in any normal car would possibly be the case).
