harsh ride

Post by stevieb »

i have a bx19 txd and just lately the ride seem very harsh....feels like every bump comes crashing through the car. there seems to be lots of travel in the suspension on each corner so i don't think it's a sphere problem.......could it be the accumulatorr?
any suggestions welcome..
thanks

You'll still get the suspension travel, even with worn spheres. Is the car hard or easy to push down on each corner? That's more of a test of spheres.

Thanks for the reply....
Just been out and checked, front seem ok but not so much travel as I remember as that of my old tgd....the rears however.....one is solid and the other is quite close to it.......have just been on to AEP Citroen services and they have one rear and two fronts in stock. They will check availability for the other rear and get one in and I'll buy a set......It doesn't seem that long ago that I checked them as OK...how time flies........

GSF usually carry a fair stock of front and rears if u are near one, or order on line next day del. You should expect about £60 a pair, or any good motor factor (not halfords) AEP direct, euro car parts, cafco, can usually get them same day tho not a stock item, you may want to consider changing the accumulator sphere at same time, fronts inc acc,sphere are easy to change but be warned some rears can be sods to get off also gives a good chance to check the condition of the rear struts. plenty of advice on here.

I've been told that the spheres are model specific.....estate, saloon GTI etc....something to do with different pressures....can anyone concur?

It's not just pressures.....it's sphere volumes and also the sizes of the damper disc holes within the sphere. :)

have been on to AEP and they're getting some in from their suppliers in Denmark but will have to wait a while for them, they are specific for my car. GSF only list front and rear, dodgy I thought. My local motor factor has none either. The car's not used much so I can wait

Also worth checking the rear arm bearings as if they get worn it can upset the ride.

Try the spheres first though.
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

AEP list at least 6 different spheres for differnt BX's but; From the other thread listed in my post above;

On the subject of spheres;

Last week I contacted AEP direct who listed 2 different genuine Citroen spheres for my TZD, from their reply below having your own spheres re-gassed may be the only way you can guarantee having the correct spheres fitted to your car in the future.

Hi there
You have listed 2 different parts no's for the front suspension
spheres for a Citroen BX 1.7 diesel turbo. SSBX55FT & FG. Could you
please advise me of the difference between the FT & FG?

The correct part number would be SSBX55FC, our supplier has superseded all the spheres to the one for the BX
Thanks

AEP told me they get their spheres from IFHS in Belgium, and I bought comfort spheres from them last year which I'm happy with (although not listed by AEP). If you look on the IFHS website and PDF catalogue they appear to still list a choice for the BX, so I wonder whether "our supplier has superseded all the spheres to the one for the BX" is more a case that AEP have rationalised their range to avoid keeping slow moving parts in stock...

Thanks for the link to IFHS Mat, I've just ordered a set of BX comfort spheres to fit to my TZD £100 + £20p+p. Thi way I also have my old genuine Citroen ones for possible re-gassing.
