Ergh! Clutch cable help!

Post by JayW »

Changed the box & clutch today and took the opportunity to swap over to the lever operated fork rather than the existing push-pin type.

Anyway, I was convinced there are two types of clucth cable, one for each of the two release setups and thought i had the appropriate new spare i needed in my spares cache. Turns out i was wrong and my spare is the same as the now wrong one on the car.

This is the type i need for the new setup:

And this is the only type i can find on fePay:

Anyone got an idea what the hell i'm missing? It's been so long since i've seen under the bonnet of another BX i'm starting to forget what i think i remember to forget remembering!

Gearbox end looks the same as the TD/16v type, but I haven't done enough work on other BXs to say whether that's a definitive answer.

There are 2 types of cable. One for the GTI & TD (including the 16V & 4x4) & the other for the rest (I believe).
I managed to find one like your looking for on Ebay when I put the 4x4 gearbox in my car. If you have the parts off the end of the TD type you might be able to get away with putting them on the other cable, BUT the TD cable sits in a slot on top of the gearbox where as the other goes in a bracket which is screwed to the gearbox.

Good luck & let us know what you come up with.

I'm pretty sure I've got a spare TD one.. I'll check tonight.... We put a genuine spare one on when then engine was out on my TD last year so I doubt TBH I'll ever need this other spare...

Well, i managed to shackle something together with penny-washers etc to get it working for now.

Found a new proper cable so will swap it when it arrives and i find the other bits i need (see wanted post).

Sadly, none of this fixed the initial problem i was doing it for but with it's new Valeo clutch and n/aD box it drives lovely and now does nearly 70mph @ 3000rpm instead of 60mph, is much quieter at speed and should return much healthier MPG on a run with no noticeable loss of performance!

Cheers guys!
